Awesome! Been debating on picking u that kit myself.
Put this one together finally. 1976 AMC Gremlin X. Painted a few years ago, and sat in a box like most of mine so far. Got a Mercedes that i'm doing now and that should be the last of my ones sitting in a box half done...
This 914 isn't the greatest build I've ever done, and also sat in a box for years lol.

1978 Chevrolet Monte Carlo1965 Chevrolet Corvair Monza 140hp

I highly recommend it. Only seen one other tamiya kit pop up for this car other one was a off the wall brand. The detail is amazing. They do use same body as the m635csi so you have to shave the m emblem off the trunk.

^^^ I love models with engines in them.
Who makes that 914 kit? - that's nice. How hard would it be to mold GT fenders for that? I suppose it would all crack and fall off. Then how would you make 9" Fuch wheels?
So the Land Rover was an Italeri kit of a military version 109 2-door with little side windows in the metal top. I wanted a full 4-door station wagon updated expedition truck.
Here's the illustration on the box and how the body pieces came...
So some cutting was involved. Everything from what would be the door frame back...
Made new styrene sides with the rear door window and rear window cut out. Later used clear for the windows and scored them for the sliders.

So a real Land Rover Station wagon has Alpine windows in the roof - gotta cut those in somehow...
Studied a lot of straight-on side photos to get the proportions right, drilled holes, used rat files and little saws. Lots of sanding to smooth it.
Make some curved glass out of some thin plastic...
Finished roof

We started out thinking we wanted that classic pale green LR color with the off-white (Limestone) roof. No spray colors even close. Tried a flat green and it just looked olive drab. Found a pale green hardware store paint at Ace. Color was right, but it make the plastic sort of soft and sticky and it never cured. Learned another modeling thing!
Sanded what I could off and went with plan B, this truck, which I love....
You lose body detail every time you sand - learned another modeling thing. They used Limestone on the wheels as well. Note those nice tall skinny tires.
Had to mask and repaint all this sheet metal I had already built....derp.... I like the old leather seats - forget which brown. Hand painted matte for some texture.
Studied a LOT of photos to locate all the door cut lines, scored them very deep, then drilled out the door latch recess and glued a flat styrene piece on the back of the new hole.
Proper LR green, bit SO glossy - LR's are never this glossy. So I went over it with a light matte clear. Not sure that's how you're supposed to do that, but...
Blacked in the door gaps with matte black and resprayed over that. Turned out pretty good. (LR's have huge door gaps)

Fit body to chassis for fit. 109s sit kind of low, with a skinny track width. A lot of people are modifying them with wider 110 axles and lifting them some. I built little styrene spring shackle extenders for the leaf springs, and fit some hollow dowels to the axle tube to push the wheels out like a 110. (Roof doesn't fit right - that took some work, everything is so thin, you can't force it.)
Added a small dowel on the wheel hubs to fit inside the hollow one in the axle tube. My glue didn't want to cooperate and I got some serious camber stance YO! Had to rebuild them 3 times and hold them still for an hour. Ugh.

Wheels were fun. Looks like somebody hit a rock and bent one, dammit! The Limestone color only comes in a jar, so hand-painted here, and the roof. Now see how you're limited by the kit? - these cool old military tires are WAY too small in diameter for this lift. That's one thing I wish I could change. Tall and skinny, not fat.
Lots of galvanized trim painting and tiny lights, then to make the top fit.....
Getting the windshield frame right was a bear. I had to sand plastic away until the whole roof could slide forward and not hang off the tailgate.
Then a wild GT40 appeared!
You run into the store for 5 minutes and somebody steals your damn wheels....and hubs....

Then a wild Dauntless dive bomber appeared! Amazing we didn't mix up any parts and paint things the wrong colors.
Gear! If you're going to go across Africa, you need some gear! Found a bunch of stuff to 1:24 scale, hand-painted to make it look more real. Our shop has a huge train section and they had a bunch of equipment and tools.
So it has tool boxes, tools, water cans, bags of rice and relief supplies, extra fuel...

OK, that's about enuf Land Rover, don't you think? Here it is fairly finished. More trim and details, mirrors, work lights, tow rope, roof rack and ladder, the folding roof tent, extra diesel cans on the roof, and a water jug "washing machine"... I actually saw this in an overland journal - they put their dirty clothes, some water and soap in the orange jug lashed onto the roof rack and drove across the desert all day. Everything was nice and clean.
Oh, look - a wild Spitfire has appeared!
I love the front. You can see I'm shitty at glass!
