How does this make any sense..??? It's a great program and all but England most definitely needs something like this. As if Brasil doesn't create and export enough Brasilian players. This has the potential to flood the market with guys getting naturalized whatever and playing on national teams against Brasil..

Beckham to build complex, academy in Brazil

David Beckham will open in Brazil the first "David Beckham World of Sport," a professional sports complex designed and planned with his input.
The complex - which will include eight soccer fields, a 10,000-capacity soccer stadium and facilities for golf and tennis among others - will be in a soon-to-be-built luxury resort near the northeastern city of Natal, according to a statement by the Cabo Sao Roque resort on Tuesday.
Beckham said the facility will incorporate a scholarship program for Brazilian children that will actively outreach to schools in the region, and that the training facilities will be able to accommodate visiting soccer teams and other sports such as American football.
Natal is one of the Brazilian cities bidding to host World Cup matches when the tournament comes to Brazil in 2014.
"I am honored to be associated with this incredible project which will build world-class sporting facilities in Brazil, hopefully having a major impact at a local level and internationally," Beckham said in a statement.
The latest David Beckham Academy - a soccer school for youths - will be among the highlights of the new development, which also will include two golf courses, academies for golf, polo and tennis, and the Rubens Barrichello Driving Experience comprised of a go-kart track and four-wheel driving facility created by the Brazilian Formula One driver.
The racing facility will offer a scholarship program for young Brazilians to help discover the country's next F1 driving champion, the statement said.
Beckham has already established academies in London and in the Los Angeles suburb of Carson.
"(The) sporting experience will excite both professional athletes and people whatever their ability," Beckham said. "I am incredibly proud of the work my academies do both in London and Los Angeles and I am happy Brazilian children will benefit from access to the top-class facilities and coaching at this resort."
Beckham is a partner in the resort project along with the group Brazil Development Investimentos Turisticos.Last edited by Maluco; 01-30-2008, 10:11 PM.

Maluco. I actually agree with you. I dont like it when players natualrize themselves just because they arent good enough for their countries seleccion/selecao. Just look at Franco for Mexico, or Camoranesi for Italy. Defeats the purpose of having national teams.

In Brasil, there are simply so many good players that if they want to shine on a national team, it has to be that of another country.

ps, I also agree with your diving rant - I disagree with you singling out Cristiano Ronaldo though. He is not the only one or the worst offender - of the many many people that dive, he just may be the most legitamately fouled of all of them. During the WC, I HATED seeing the players diving, especially on the Portuguese sqaud - as I feel it hurt us more than helped us. You cry wolf, cry wolf, cry wolf - then when the wolf really comes nobody listens. Christiano falls, falls, then gets legitamately fouled - play continues.
anyway, just making a point he is not the only one or the worst offender - he is just high profile. It's unfortunate that its such a big part of the game anymore, and it really shouldn't be.
there, thats my rant...
