"Whack-o Christians" - humm. ok. well count me as one of "those".

I see more reasons to believe in Christ as my God than anything you could imagine then. I see things on at least a weekly, and sometimes daily, basis that God is real, my savior, and since he was willing to give His son for my sins - the One I will join in heaven when I die.

I promise not to get all "whack-o" on you, but you better believe when you call my flavor of faith on the carpet that I have a duty to stand and be counted as one who won't stand for your unbelief to pass as truth or fact.

    Yours in Christ -

    Ben

Feel free to pick on me, or use me as your example of a "whack-o Christian".

C.S. Lewis was quoted once as saying "A faith not tested is no faith at all"

So feel free to try. I have bigger worries than the "un-enlightened evolutionists" - Oh, yeah - that's how I refer to you when I pray for your soul.

It's not how you handle the good times, but the faith you keep in the bad that defines you.

Who is this "we" pray tell? I'm a naturalized American citizen, English wasn't even my first language. Definetly not "obese", don't drive an SUV, and currently working on a masters. Guess what, I'm also a Christian.

I'll be sure to tell my Egyptian, Islamic friends that I just got back from a shisha bar with that I'm apparently in possession of a "derogatory" mindset. I'll be sure to forget that I've read the Quaran, the Shar'iah, as well as the Bible, the Septuagint and the Tannach.

A couple of hilljacks down in Kentucky that want to open a museum scares me a whole lot less than a bunch of allah-loving camel jockies trying to blow themselves and everyone else up.

Believing information from either side is ridiculous. The truth always lies somewhere in the middle. The notion that the world has of Americans is pretty ridiculous in my opinion. I don't care where you go in the world, there are people that are worth a shit and people that are not. America is no different than any other country in that regard. Americans aren't really any dumber than Aussie's or Chinese or anyone else, believing some biased study put out is foolish.

What makes America a popular target for the world is the fact that we are really the only super power left in the world and at times we can be a bit arrogant with our politics. I love the people who bitch about how awful it is that we assert our agenda world wide, guess what so does every other country. Nothing new there, we just happen to be more powerful than most nations. Of course this spawns jealousy.

Ironically we also give more in foreign aid than most other countries worldwide. No one likes to talk about that though when they get up on their America bashing soap box.

              I love these threads.

The bible is SO the easy way out. Yet you have to have "faith" to be saved.
Hey if God wanted me to believe he'd pop his out and tell me so. Faith wont do it for me.

Isn't that idea just an silly as a magic unicorn god that lives in space and controls our destinies, or a flying spaghetti monster? The fact that no one can prove god exists - that you have to take it on 'faith' - makes me believe that there isn't a higher power and that we just turn into compost when we die.
And anyone who believes the world is 6000 years old didn't pay enough attention in high school history. Ever hear of the Sumerians? They had an advanced civilization in today's middle east about 7000 years ago.

Don't get me wrong, I'm not defending one side or the other. Just pointing out that either way, its rediculous. Do what makes you happy and don't tell me about it because either way, I don't care.

That being said, believing in a god is absolutely just as silly as a spaghetti monster or magic unicorn or whatever. I disagree that one fact is universally easier to swallow however. For some, it is easier to swallow that there is no such higher being. Others thrive off the idea that a higher being gives their life purpose and cannot fathom the concept of there being no god.

I was merely pointing out that a christian who does not acknowledge the possibility of there being no god is just as retarded as an athiest who will not acknowledge the possibility of a god.

You won't get me to commit to a side though...

According to a friend (who happens to be a catholic priest) the bible and all other scriptures are simplified metaphorical versions of the planet's history, written so that the simple minded ancient people could actually relate to the chain of events that made this planet without having the complex knowledge necessary to explain the events.

And of course (this one is mine, not his) in the process gain control of humanity and create a religious authority which has gathered wealth and power beyond belief during the last thousands of years.

God, A.K.A. Allah has nothing to do with churches, he would not mix with such lowlife. ;)

                    No offense meant either...

                      this thread is retarded...

from the claims of expertise from having read every single religious text (most likely in their native languages :\), to the notion that we give more than any other nation in foreign aid (regardless of the stone cold FACT that we give less as a percentage of our national wealth than the poorer nations...there's a neat little story about some old woman giving all she has to the church that the thumpers should be familiar with...but what does the bible and its lessons of generosity mean in everyday affairs to the faithful anyway) to the notion that one can be a believer and doubt the existence of a deity or be an atheist and believe in the possibility of a deity...no matter the meaning of either of those terms!

why put it on the religous?
post our graduates' standings in relation to the rest of the world
                      post our functional illiteracy stats
post whatever the hell you want

they all indicate our relative stupidity

wont change the fact that this thread is perhaps the best example of how stupid US citizens are.

                        So wait a sec....
You are saying that Americans are stupid b/c we belive in god? What about the rest of the world? I would venture to say that the muslim population is a tad larger than the christian population in the us. Ever been to Belgium? Christ's "blood" is in a small church in a town called Bruges. Go to that town and you will understand faith. When I visited Germany, Belgium, and France, I got an idea of just how religious Europe is. There are religious symbols everywhere you look. Not just churches, but statues that are so old it is staggering. I myself agree with TJ. As long as you live your life well, god (if there is a god) cannot fault you. As far as americans being stupid, There are a ton more reasons we are stupid than our religious beliefs.
                        Yours truly,
