our dealer doesnt come pick us up, we live 20 miles away, and I don't need to wait around and watch plasma tv's... all that is a waste of money. I would never sit and wait all day for my car to get done so whats the point. and car dealer latte's...bleh.

its amazing what getting on the horn and doing research can do. in the past 15 mins i've found 2 suppliers of polyurethane bushings for the first gen GS300's...the guys on clublexus STILL don't know where to get them and its been years.

Let us know how your KYB struts work out.

OEM = Original Equipment Manufacturer. This is the manufacturer of the original equipment installed on the vehicle, whoever the manufacturer chooses for that particular part.

Many people dread going to a little garage, where there may not even be a clean wall to lean against while you wait.

That said, I've never, ever, takin a car to a dealer. The only reason my car's see a garage is alignments and inspections.

From my experience, and I dont take my cars to shops that often, its often worth taking a car to the dealer unless youve found a mechanic who you trust completely. At the dealer the technicians are trained for the specific car you own, as opposed to a mom and pop shop where its a crapshoot. When I was younger I got hosed a couple times bringing it to a cheap place and they couldnt diagnose the problem correctly. I just pissed my money away on things that didnt needed to be fixed until they got it right.

Sure, because KYB IS the OEM manufacturer of the part. No, he doesn't have them in a KYB Box with KYB labels.

TOYOTA (LEXUS) DOES NOT MAKE ITS OWN SHOCKS AND STRUTS!!!!!!!!!!

When I went to replace the shocks and struts on my wife's Sienna, I got the KYBs after some careful research, and talking to a guy at Toyota NA HQ (which is about 10 minutes from my house - here in KY) and confirmed that in fact the OE part was the same as the KYB GR-2.

Really the likely other option is that they are Tokico.

Come to Kentucky - when they built the Toyota plant here, all of a sudden we had plants for Clarion, Tokico, and a bunch of other Japnese component parts makers.

Even us dumb hillbillies can figger dat one out!!!!

Generally speaking, neither would I. But if 80+% of your customers would, you do it - its called good business. Face it, many Lexus owners wouldn't change their own oil, and won't take it to the Jiffy Lube either. They pay the $100 oil change cost, wait 40-50 minutes and drink the damn latte. Its part of what you have to factor in as the overhead the dealer has.

I've gone there for warranty items and to buy parts (an air filter, lug nuts- to replace the damned locking ones, and touch up paint.) Believe you me, when its my nickel paying for the work, it'll be my ass in the garage doing it.

The fact that you still get quotes from a dealer is silly.

Yeah my dad is usually one of those types to take it to the dealer and relax while things get done but he even got sick of the ridiculous rates. Since I'm in town he asked if I could help him get the work done.

I'm having a local 240z nissan shop that builds race cars do the work for $175.

I am no fan of the dealer, however look at it thsi way. Lawyer buys Lexus and needs to have it serviced. Lawyer bills out 400 an hour or spend a day swapping his struts. No what makes sense.

I like to work on my cars new and old so I would enjoy. I usually do not bill out 400 an hour as well.
