Care to enlighten why the taste has gone considerably downhill?Originally posted by skuyler View Postyeah, we brew it every hour, all day
Or what the content of major blends is now substituted with beans from the Phillipines?
No personal offense, but as much as I liked $-Bux before '95, the taste has gone so totally downhill, that it seems they intentionally over-roast to mask the poorer quality beans used.
Then there's the issue of going from manual control espresso machines, to the semi-auto pushbuttons that were rolled out in the late 90's/early '00's.
It's now my personal opinion that i get a better coffee from the recently improved 7-11 machine, then the 'tank o' swill', or even an Americano of the newer semi-autos.
And the coffee at Tim Horton (Canada), CrispyCreme, and Haggen's (local grocery) all beat the 7-11 stuff.
Only good thing I find in S-Bux these days is a carmel macchiato, and i hardly call that coffee, more dessert in a cup.
Man, this turned into a long rant.
It's not how you handle the good times, but the faith you keep in the bad that defines you.

hey man, i totally understand your concern. heck, your from "mecca" so to speak. Also, I've only been there for about four months now and you seem to know a lot more about it than I do. However, I can say that the push-button espresso machines aren't my favorite way to make quality drinks...I mean they shorten our time like crazy, but there's no love involved.Originally posted by LINUS View PostCare to enlighten why the taste has gone considerably downhill?

About the poorer quality beans, I can't speak for the company at all, but I'm sure you know that its grown to mega-proportions in the last ~decade. That means that they are selling a LOT more coffee and their original growers can't meet the "growing" (HEH!) demand. But, this is all speculation to me, and your guess is as good as mine.

Man Ive actually woken up at 5AM to go piss in the morning and had a beer. On weekends many times Ive woken up and gone straight to the fridge and gotten a beer. Breakfast of champions.

Seattle's Best has some stuff they call 'toddy'. Its a super-strong coffee that they brew in-store overnight. They might brew it for 24 hours.
Anyway, the shit is strong. They 50% dilute it with water for their iced coffee drinks. But you can order it straight.
Try this: medium undiluted toddy with 5 pumps vanilla. Tell them to leave a little room so you can add some cream.
Goddamned rocket fuel

Wow - that's a pretty wild drink. Sounds like colon blow in a cup. I have a buddy that does that stuff - he orders a drip coffee to drink while he waits for a quad shot soy latte - true story.Originally posted by Victell View PostSeattle's Best has some stuff they call 'toddy'.
