OK - I'm glad you see what I am getting at. Besides, Armalite is a company that I'm positive keeps track of who gets what rifle, especially the T model of the AR-10,AR-30's (all), and the AR-50.
Last time I was in NV at a range renting MAC-11's (gotta love full auto states), I struck up conversation with a guy who had a AR-30 in .338 Lapua and he was nice enough to let me sqeeze off 3 rounds with that monster. I am very familiar with .308 Winchester, so I wasn't thinking I too far out of my zone.
I was VERY wrong. I think this is a devastating round, and if I was to choose between a AR-30 in .338L or a AR-50 - yep, the 30. I've never even held a AR-50, but judging by these specs:
I'm fairly sure I would need a custom gun safe to house a 50 without breaking it down, plus packing a 5' 35# gun wouldn't be any fun. Plus the fact you would vaporize a deer if you had any plan to do anything besides kill people wearing body armor.
I bet hitting a traffic cam with one of these would tear the whole thing loose, sending it to the ground as scrap metal, and in the process making the local news and becoming popular with local law, where if you break the lense with a BB gun / slingshot at least there would be a few 'free' days before DOT could get to repairing the camera.

Quite possibly. I was told it was a sniper specific duty round engineered in the early 80's, and then gaining some popularity ~10 yrs. later. It was the first round the AR-30 was chambered for, but I really only recall 30's being on the market in the last ~5 years. It's also available as .308W , and one other - I forget what - it's on the Armalite site though.
There's really seldom an original idea these days, so maybe it's based on the WW1 round you know of. I wouldn't be surprised.

^^^^ Truth. WA law says 'no decorative covers' either. And to add insult to injury, as they develop more & more reflective paint/coatings, they swap out your plates every ~6 years. And to top it off, you pay like $8 charge for the plates - not the full $35-$45 for new plates, but there is still a charge and that is the only reason they change the plates. I asked the gal at the courthouse since I got handed new plates for my Cruiser last year, And that was the exact reason she gave me.

yup here in mi, they are swaping out our trade mark blue plate for white ones this year, more reflective would be my guess. and charging us 15 apice just to do the mandatory swap.Originally posted by FusionIf a car is the epitome of freedom, than an electric car is house arrest with your wife titty fucking your next door neighbor.
