Whats a good LCD monitor that does HDTV?

Thinking about upgrading my setup and ditching my 27" KV-32FV310 sony WEGA, although it is pretty much the best analog 27" tv you can get, times are a changing. I'd like to get a computer monitor that will be about 24" in size that will be able to use standard composite video inputs so i can watch cable TV on it and also have VGA, DVI or HDMI for my video card to monitor as well as HDMI for future HD DVD hookups.

anyone know of such on the market. I'd be selling my 1800FP ultrasharp LCD flatscreen and TV to offset some of the costs with upgrading. Its funny because I'm almost thinking of just keeping this 18" lcd monitor and getting just an HDTV for seperate use. This monitor is 4 years old and seems to play full motion video better than expensive plasma's i see at best buy. I don't know what all the fuss over HDTV is if my monitor plays things super clear already.

Right now I am on a Dell 23" widescreen. Dont remember the model, it is pretty decent set-up though. The resolution is a little low for a computer, but its ok. 1360x768 I think.

Anyways, it works damn well in my dorm room. Computer in via DVI, Wii on the component input, and tv piping in via coax. The black values are a little disapointing, but its an LCD so yah.

I got it on sale a while back for $500. I reallly like it!

not too many computer monitors have HDMI inputs.

I have a 24" dell 2407wfp, it's 1920x1200 (a 1080p HDTV is 1920x1080), which works out to be about 96dpi. it does DVI, VGA, composite, component, PIP, PBP, etc. etc. I think response time is around 8ms, which is plenty IMO. Movies and games look fantastic, and on the desktop the screen is BRIGHT (seriously, you have to turn it down) and very crisp. except for maybe the 30" version of this screen, I don't think it gets much better. :)

most LCD HDTVs you are going to find are only 1360x768 or whatever it is. that would pretty much suck to use as a computer screen. there are a few 1080p HDTV LCD's out there, but you will pay an arm and a leg for one. but if you can find one, you should be able to use it as your computer monitor just fine.

for years all I had was a 17" CRT, or sometimes dual 17" CRTs. there is NO WAY I could ever go back to a 4:3 CRT after having a 24" widescreen..

ha, HDMI for a monitor would be a pointless system since there are no speakers on monitors, i'd just need to use an HDMI to dvi-d cable from a hd dvd to the monitor in that case. I really like the sound of the dell that you have nando. That would be awesome to get, and i could get a 16:9 40" projection HDTV for regular viewing. I am a huge fan of projection TV's, anyone IMO who argues about plasma or LCD as being better is only being suckered into wanting what has become "stylish" to put a TV on the wall. I don't want a TV on my wall!
