The lock cylinder assembly is completely seperate from the vacuum mechanism. A rod with a paddle is attached to the end of the lock cylinder which then turns the locking mechanism in the vacuum module. The module then unlocks/locks the doors. These rods are known to break and they have been replacing them with a stronger casting.
Even if air could be forced through the cylinder and tumblers it still doesn't make sense. I didn't even know it was possible for air to enter the vacuum switch.Comment

I can't see how this would work on any vw mk3 with vacuum operated locks... I'm also confident that vw hasn't changed the locking mechanisms much for its successors.

that's why I said prolly. I dont know much about vacuum locks but it seemed for feasible to work on then then regular locks :D
