    Suspicious Email

I recently put some stuff up on Craigslist and one thing I put up was a kegarator.

    I recieved this email today:

    Hello,
I saw your Ad on CL and would love to have your item
if it's still available for sale...however i would
like to add that i have a shipper,so therefore my
shipper would come over for the pick-up,but i would
know where the payment will be sent out to,and to whom....and i will be issueing
you a Bank Certified Check as my mode of payment.Get
    in touch ASAP...
    Regards..

This would be alright but his email address is victor cool <victorcool_101@yahoo.co.uk>

Does this seem suspicious. Why would you want to send a kegarator to the UK from the US?

I ask him why he would ship something so big to the UK. I also told him that before it left my house, I would have to make sure the check cleared. I also asked him what bank would be certifying the check.

sounds like the typical craigslist scammer. Just tell him cash only.

Actually, try replying back to him and see if he ever gets specific about what your selling. Usually they always refer to it as "your item". I think they just do copy & paste responses.

Are these one of those things that people on here have recieved checks for a huge amount of money and were told to keep the bulk of it but send back 40,000 or whatever? I thought I saw someone post that up on here and then the check was bad.

I see his address is in the UK. When i was selling my dakota a guy said he would buy it but he said his daughter was getting marryed in the UK and would like to get it for her as a gift. He said he would let the shipper pay for it as long as i gave him the title. What a big scam. Plus who would get their daughter a 88 dodge dakota as a wedding gift? A simmilar scammer tried something like this with my dad when he was selling a cuda. And that guy had a UK address also.

someone tried to do the same thing to me with the puppies i am selling. The guy said he was deaf through email and sent us 3,000 dollars in money orders in the mail and told me to send everything back except the amount for the puppy. the money orders came from Nigeria. needless to say i didn't do it. but, you gotta be careful. it sounds like a scam to me

I have heard stories of people accepting money orders and then cashing them at the bank. The bank "clears" it and gives you the money but then a few days or a week later the bank finds out it was a fraudulent money order and then they come after you and seize the money from your account.

So be very wary of these people on craigslist and elsewhere.

Do some searching about Nigerian scammers, and read here (http://www.craigslist.org/about/scams.html)

How do you know it is a scam? It could be but maybe I am jumping the gun. I didn't know that more people experienced scams like this and seems like all of them got a email from a .uk so that is something I didn't know

who goes through all that trouble for a kegerator and searches individual cities of craigslist? the shipping to the uk would cost more than the kegerator.

We know it's a scam because this has been floating around the internet for nearly 5 years. It's the exact same thing every time. I once followed through with one of the scammers, received the check, and called the bank it was from. They said it was not from them, asked for the check to be mailed to them for evidence, and notified the FBI.

I have received probably over 100 of these emails over the past 2-3 years with my BMW parts for sale.
