or go spend $1000 on a necklace and give it to her... once...

That all depends on the girl. I've known TONS of guy's girlfriends that were all about getting nothing but gifts and flowers for Valtentine's, and I bet you there's still shitloads of them out there. V-day is a day that will bring out your girl's true colors, without a doubt. Don't get them anything and watch what happens. And even if they aren't pissed about it at first, wait until all of her friends get a hold of her. I'm not saying this is typical for all girls, but I've seen/had it happen far too many times.

Aside from that, I'll end there. I'm far too cynical for my own good. I will say that there is one Valentine's Day definite that I always get, and I'll leave it at that. Andrew (NitroRustlerDriver) is afterall, my brother in law, and I doubt very highly he wants to hear much more about what goes on with his sister behind closed doors. ;)

So far I have not dated one girl that would have remotely enjoyed camping of any sorts. After people telling me to do things like this instead of the typical commercial valentines day stuff, I tried and basically got a "I can't believe you are just thinking about yourself, I don't want to go camping," response. I have tried to plan romantic (IMO) ski getaway vacations and got smacked with a "That is all about yourself, I don't even like the snow that much!"

What she wanted was chocolates, earings, a card, maybe a necklace, a dinner, etc. Whatever it was it had to ALL be about HER. So that is what I will try to do on my next Valentines day, whenever that may be. Take her to HER favorite place, get her something SHE wants, make sure i get HER favorite flowers, etc. I don't have to spend a bunch of money on a huge gift but whatever it is needs to be very thoughtful.

whatever, I spoil my girl every chance I can. Just because I drop some coin on jewelry on v-day, it's nothing compared to the money I spend for all the "just cause" gifts. That tiffany pendant i bought, half the colehaan clutch, the furla handbag, the coach carryall, the dolcegabanna shoes I just bought her because i love her. I like spoiling those around me, the only thing I really spoil myself with is guns and tools (ok, ok some tailored suits too.).

Do you really think it is necessary for a high schooler that probably makes $6/hr to spend $400 for jewerly on a girl that will probably dump him in the next month or two? No, save your money.

Point taken....as with anything you need to use common sense...if you're makin minimum wage and can hardly afford to put gas in your car of course it wouldn't be wise to drop $50 on flowers and if you have a keeper of a girlfriend she would understand that too. And as others mentioned do it cause you want to, not because she expects it....if you can't find in your heart to spend a little money on her on VDay I suggest finding a new one.

As far as your "conquering every vagina" comment. Yeah, I still don't agree with that but whatever, some chicks dig a one night stand just as much as some guys....it's just never been for me. But if you're goal every night is to go out and bone a new girl every week just for another notch on the bed post...thats just not right...no wonder some girls dont have any self-respect.
