Nice move. Still dont understand what Ford got from the sale though. It barely does anything for their financial situation. And Aston has been one of their few profitable companies.

not in the grand scheme of things. big car companies want versatile multi-use platforms that they can build by going parts-bin diving. aston doesnt really fit into that business model. they only got like 900 million but hopefully the new shareholders (prodrive is majority i guess) will shape it up to build some sick ass rides.

Good move for both Aston and Ford IMO. Aston needs to stay as a specialty company and Ford needs to minimize the amount of parts they are manufacturing.

Surprisingly enough Aston Martin was one of the few parts of the Ford Motor Co. that has actually been profitable recently, but it is still a good move for Ford in the grand scheme of things for them to go.

Actually, Ford still does have 'interest' in Aston Martin - at the tune of about 40 million Euros. Ford also has an engine manufacturing facility close to AMs assembly line and they will continue to churn out some items for AM in this regard, but that is about all the involvement they will have.

It is no secret that Ford has been on shaky financial ground lately and unloading the vast majority of the AM interest may seem like peanuts in contrast to the big picture, but it was probably the right move for them. Aston Martins' are high end luxury cars whose platforms aren't shared with any other Ford badged products and a very small, exclusive group of potential buyers. If Ford wants to get healthy again, it needs to consolidate some of their existing product offerings and stick to what they know - cars and trucks for the masses and steer clear of 'specialty' marques.
