I love these threads of people bitching and whining about fucked up things in their personal lives, especially things that they had complete control over.

One thing to understand here- When you think that you missed it by one point, you really didnt.. you missed it by SEVERAL points.
Like when the teacher locks you out of the classroom because you were one minute late. Its not that the teacher was being nit-picky over that one minute but more or less you should have been there at least 5 to 10 minutes before class was scheduled to start. Or its like how some people claim that their license was revoked because of that ONE TICKET for an illegal U-turn when they really have a 3-page driving record.
Part of the reason why people tend to fall just short of success is because they are aiming for the minimum requrement. When I was in high school essentially you needed 20 credits to graduate however you had the opportunity to earn 24 credits. So you could fail a maximum of 4 classes in a 4 year period without having to go to summer school.
I waited until my senior year to use my 4 credit allowance while many of my friends used up their allowance in their freshman and sophomore years. So while I was skipping school and going to house parties during the school day, some of my collegues were sweating bullets trying to beg the teacher into a passing grade because they needed that ONE CLASS in order to graduate.Comment

You a product of the Northern VA School system as well? I always figured it was such a huge joke, 22 credits to graduate, when you could get 28-29 just by doing a normal load of courses every year. I ended up with an "advanced" HS diploma just by not failing classes.

No I went to school in Maryland. Even back then we knew that if you did your homework and went to class you breeze your way through a 2.0.
Going back to equate's situation, one little known fact in most colleges is that it is very easy to pass the class even though its kicking your butt. If you visit the instructor during his administrative office hours asking for help and clarification you begin to build a rapport. If you do that consistently and make every single class on time, its almost as if he is obligated to pass you. Because even though you might not have mastered the material, you certainly have proven that you made every effort to do so.Comment

This is certainly a very large generalization, not only because different schools have different criteria but also because every professor is different. Some professors just don't give two licks. The grade you earned on paper is the grade you get. Others might give you points for coming in during office hours, perfect attendance, etc... and others will just curve every grade based on the class average...
...but I do agree, if you honestly try failing should not be a problem. Other things like a full time job can get in the way and take up study time but it doesn't look like this was the OP's problem...Comment

I work a full time job 40 hours a week, 20 hours a week with my eBay biz and took 12 hours of classes this past semester. I aced them all with a 91 or higher.
I have no sympathy for you.. It almost sounds like you waited until the last minute to get serious about your school work. Lesson learned I hope.Comment

Come on, man. I worked my way up to a store manager position (on call 72 hours a week, at the shop ~50 hours a week), while finishing my Bachelors degree in 3 years taking advanced night classes. I still had time for a girlfriend, hanging out with my friends, and working on my car as well. I also started parting out e30's during my last 1.5 years, which takes at least 5-8 hours a week.
You have no reason to hate your school, you can hate yourself for not trying AT ALL. It is VERY easy if you apply yourself. Not to break into your personal life.... but are you even paying for your schooling? Either way - you didn't try hard, and you don't like it, obviously, why are you there, wasting your money or someone else's money? Do you think the schooling stops when you graduate? Any career that requires schooling will require continued education of some sort, most of the time self-provoked. If you don't want to do it now your not going to want to do it later.
College isn't for everyone. Many careers do not require or even prefer college. Just because our society claims it's necessary doesn't mean it is. Think about what you want to do in life before you get all backed up on school loans and don't have the type of job to make it worthwhile.Comment

I'm wasting MY money because I have gone this far, had I known how stupid this whole deal was I never would have gone to a traditional college in the first place, even with my degree I can get I don't plan on ever using it, its not what I want to do. The only reason I am here to begin with is just a fall back plan.Rollin' with a GeistkuchenComment
