Unless I am wrong, I always thought that the statue of limitations does not apply to every kind of crime. Take murder for instance- Every now and then the authorities revisit a murder that took place over 30 years ago by either re-opening a cold case or somehow they discover evidence and trace it back to some old fart sitting on the porch with his grandchildren. And just when the guy thinks that he young adult stupidity was behind him, now he has to explain where he was on August 17, 1974.
