Interestingly, the US economy could not function without those illegal low wage workers, just as the US could not have grown without African slavery. Being illegal, those underpaid South and Central America workers cannot get public wellfare, education or health benefits, which is why they are so valuable to the the US economy. I wonder what percentage of Latinos are "sucking on welfare" compared to other "real" Americans. That was a pretty blunt comment.

BTW There is a huge gap between assimilation (loosing all your cultural background) and learning the language and habits of the hosting country. People coming from all over the world and bringing their rich culture is a benefit to any society. Let's not ask them to dump it. Only learning the language is a natural integration, not assimilation.

If it weren't for some crazy Europeans bringing over their good taste for Bavarian automotive in the 1950's, perhaps we would currently all drive Chevy's and not BMWs, VWs or Volvos... I work and do payrolls for the garment industry in Los Angeles. Probably the biggest hotbed of said activity and said industry. These people get their State and Federal withholdings taken out of their taxes along with social security, but will never see the benefits (rightly so). Im not saying they should get the benefits, Im saying this to prove a point that in no way are they leaches. Anything that requires a social security number, they cant get. People say they take our jobs. #1 whos going to do backbreaking labor for 10-14 hours a day for minimum wage? A teenager? no. NO ONE wants those jobs. #2 We actually take THEIR jobs in thir countries when we make their farmers obsolete due to us continuing to subsidize our farms and tax foreign goods to keep our inferior industries afloat and making money for the shotcallers.

This is the United States of America. English and European classical culture have never had any significant impact here. Our culture is derivative of our folk culture. It is the culture of the masses and not the artistic and aesthetic elite. Country music, blues, jazz and their contemporary manifestations are the dominant influences. Many years ago when the majority of immigrants were of European decent, they came over here by the boat loads and left most of they're culture/languages behind to become US citizens and to start new life's. I don't see why other races cant seem to do the same or feel that they shouldn't have to.

I feel that if any languages should be taught in school it should be main power languages. I believe the main ones consist of English, German and Japanese.

A lot of those minimum wage jobs would be paying more than minimum wage if the hispanic guy wasn't there to do it. It drives down the market for other people already in the business. My friend is a painter from California and he said it's almost impossible to find a job there, because they'd rather pay a mexican guy minimum wage to do it.

Out here minimum wage is $7 and every job starts at $10. McDonalds, BK, etc. all pay $10 starting for any shift, and thats because nobody is willing to work there, so the base pay must come up.

I good rock wall will cost $17-$20/sq. ft. but then guy down the street with 10 mexicans working for him will bid $14, and he'll get the job.

Just because they're paying taxes with no benefits doesn't make it right. I pay taxes yet I can't drink, can't get my CDL, can't get a rental car, can't get a hotel, I can't even sign for my own damn packages at UPS, all because I'm not 21 yet. I'm a full US citizen and pay out the ass, can get busted for anything the government wants to pin on me, yet I still don't get the same rights as everyone else.



I'm trying not to say this from the typical "The world should be like us" American attitude. I hate this 2 faced money hungry country full of lazy idiots.
But I will say having a work force that will take on jobs at cheap (due to them being illegal, so even if the job is low paying, its still having a job), definately drives down the market, and makes skilled workers already in the field either drop their prices down (losing profit) or move to another field.


And before anyone says that if I hate America I should get out and go somewhere else, America illegally invaded my country, and is still stealing every bit they can to this day.
