I concur with CleanAzzE30z. There's a lot of history behind all of this. The current flack is basically a political strategy to divide people and divert their attention from the real issues facing this country. Immigrants going all the way back to the early 1800's have been exploited and discriminated against by the people already here. This was true of the Irish, German's, Italians, and all the rest including everybody's whipping boy, the Jews. I grew up with a lot of Italian and Eastern European immigrants. The grandparents spoke their native tongue, the parents heavily accented English, and the children sounded like the people on TV.
The solution to the "illegal immigrant" problem lies with our agricultural subsidy programs and the reform of the hiring practices of American business. We have created the conditions in Mexico, Central America, and in our own country that have produced the economic refugees.
Racism and hatred are ugly. They demean us personally and as a society.

Here's one for you. Just the other day here in Illinois a Hispanic immigrant's family was given $2.3 million dollars for pulling out in front of and being killed by a police officer in a traffic accident. The uproar started when it was found out that

1. Had no driver's license
2. No insurance
3. He was an illegal immigrant (which the judge withheld from the jury)

And the family (also here illegally) sued the city and won!

I am not familiar with this case, but isn't a life a life, whatever the colour of the skin and the social/legal status? If a tourist was shot/killed by cops, would it be different? Both wouldn't be real American or have any status? Anyway, this case shows that US is the land of "free enterprise". Sue and you shall receive...

BTW It should say "Laissez le bon temps rouler." which is a very direct translation of "Let the good time roll." When the Acadian were refugees, deported from Eastern Canada, they did not speak English (which was the language of their oppressor) and even these days, many still speak a particular Acadian type of French. I think that the national language idea is a way to get people riled up. I think that in middle America, most people are white. When a bunch of poor Mexicans move in, they typically don't drive Mercedes and buy houses in the nicer neighborhoods. They're poor and have crappy clothes, cars, apts., etc.. White people feel like their quality of life is deteriorating because they have poor people living around them and they want to do something about it.

Honestly, if you are really that upset about pushing "1" on the phone, you must have a hard time dealing with life's real problems.

I think that many people who don't like Mexicans listen to Rush Limbaugh and Ann Coulter so that they can have someone explain to them why it's okay to not like them.

None of these facts can be considered contributory negligence or effect the legal liability of the parties involved. Drivers have won jury verdicts even when over the legal limit of blood alcohol when it couldn't be proven that it contributed to the accident. Undoubtedly the 3rd. factor above was withheld because it was inflammatory and prejudicial to the plaintiffs. Prejudice is the operative word here. Your spin on this case validates that.
The title of this thread is "Think it's racist to say...? I think the question has been answered with a great big yes.
As to fining businesses, the current administration and most of the legislators in Washington bend over and spread them for business. They have the money, lobbyists, and run the show. They want illegal Mexicans and will continue to have them. They don't give a sh*t about you. Just keep talking all that English language stuff like good little boys. Making English the official language won't change anything about illegal immigration.

The carpet mills in the Dalton, Ga area are always getting raided from INS and busted for illegal workers !!!! I have NO problem with immigrants that are legal but when you are here ILLEGALLY you have to be sent back because they are breaking the system down and the backbones of our politicians....
