you can use sound recorder in your windows folder.

Ya, just use some kind of program that can record. You want to record from the "Stereo Mix". Just play the DVD as normal and hit record.

i guess no one around here rips dvd's...

i did it in the past but its a worthless venture now-a-days with the cost of blank dvds now

i dont remember much anymore but here is a little to help you along.
i think you get the sound clip from dvd decrypter

The audio is, i think, in a strange format and needs to be converted to mp3 first...
yeah, its an AC3 file and i used PX3 convert to go directly to a wave file so take a look around if you need it as an mp3

You are probably better off just using an audio editing program that can record off of your soundcard in real time. So as you play the movie you are recording the audio.

There is freeware out there that will do this perfectly. Some will even let you preview your selection area. You'll have to do a web search or look on download.com.

The sound recorder is under "entertainment" which is under "accessories" in the start menu.

When you press record, it will default to recording a 60-second clip. If the song that you are recording is longer than 60 seconds, allow it to record total silence for the full 60 seconds and then go to the edit menu and choose "copy" and then "Paste insert" then keep paste-inserting until you extend the clip time out long enough to record the song. Then you can go back and play the DVD and hit record on the recorder and then you can save it as a WAV file.

Yes. You will have to change your volume settings.

In that same section with the sound recorder you will see VOLUME CONTROL. Open that up and then click on OPTIONS and then on PROPERTIES and then click on the radio button that says, RECORDING. Your volume control window will then change to "Recording Control" and then you will hit the check box for WAVE or WHAT U HEAR (depending on what is available) and that will select the device that is being recorded.. specifically the sound that you hear when playing the DVD.
