please take a look at this link, i use it just for the picture, but there isnt much a visual difference between the bike tire changer and the car one..

It is possible, we used to do it ALL the time when I worked at the tire shop.

It looks close the only difference i see is that the feet are much higher than a standard car machine. I think it would work in certain applications but im sure there are some wheels it wouldnt work on or they wouldnt make a completely different changer.

Is it too hard to get to your local bike dealer to do it?

I just remember a friend had a set of paddles put on quad rims, and the guy at the tire shop bent a rim trying to do it.

Even if it's a couple bucks more than getting it done at your local Walmart SUPERDUPER Mega Tire Mart (or whatever) - it beats the hassle of a bent wheel, dealing with boob store manager, or any other hassles.

I completely bet your wheel is stronger than a quad wheel, but why risk it?

        What's the hangup?

It's not how you handle the good times, but the faith you keep in the bad that defines you.

The one in this link looks very similar to the one I used to use at the shop I worked at. I think it would work.

One thing that my cousin used to do all the time is use WD40. He would deflate the tire, soak the tire bead really well with the WD40 and then use the hooked end of a pry bar to pop it off the rim. Once he got the first edge of the tire out, it was relatively easy to work the other side of the tire off of the rim after spraying the inside of the tire with the WD40.

Installation of the new tire was the reverse but much easier. One thing about WD40 is that it evaporates rather quickly so when getting rubber on or off metal it works great because it temporarily lubricates the rubber and once it evaporates, the tire will hold on the rim as if you never sprayed it.

Our machines at work will mount anything on anything up to a 30" rim and 47" tire.

I used to do 245/35/18 Hoosiers on Magnesium Dymags, and the machine/pry bar wouldn't even touch the rim. Yes I could do it touchless, therefore I consider myself a pro.
