Noted. Ive been playing a lot of Call of Duty. My personal favorite is the SPAS-12. Should I just buy one of those?

Oh yeah, I should also note that I ran into a friend from high school. Hes on reserve from the Army as a sniper or some shit and he wants to go shoot some big guns. Being a good redneck, I agreed.
What other assault rifles are good for target practice for beginners? I also havent shot anything in several years.

But I am serious about the assault rifle just to learn markmenship. Its alwyas interested me, and I think Im adult enough in life to own such a thing, and I have the access to proper education and land to boot. Like I said, a couple of buddies have been bugging me to come shoot their AR's and AK's, so I'm gonna go do just that. I know I'll be addicted thoug, and thanks for the info. Learned some new stuff.

I think this isn't being properly addressed.. It's not like you can pick up an AR and hit black at 600 yards with iron sights here... You say marksmanship. Do you have any decent history shooting guns, shotguns or rifles, at any distance? I would suggest NOT getting an AR and starting with a .22 bolt gun to learn fundamentals and be able to train very cheaply compared to an AR.... My AR sat for a long long time cause it was expensive to shoot and just not that fun for me cause I didn't really know what I was doing.... I sold it, bought a pistol and a Savage bolt gun and the savage is 1000x more fun than the AR was. Some people are different but if you don't really have a background in firearms, I wouldn't suggest buying an AR right away. You also mention using it for home defense... Don't do that. That bullet will go through a person, through a wall, and into your neighbors house without breaking a sweat. You'll do as you please I'm sure and I know people will disagree with me, but I'd suggest a .22. It's not emasculating when your friends spent $200 to shoot for a couple hours and you spent $25 with ammo leftover, and are hitting things they aren't...

If you've never shot a gun before, buy a .22 rifle and learn proper fundamentals that way. .22 costs $.02/shot, .223 for an AR is what, $.20? adds up quick.

This. I started out with a pellet gun as a kid. Moved up to a .22 semi auto, then .222, and the first gun I bought myself was at 18, the Mosin Nagant.

Start small/cheap, make sure you like it, get good, and move up. There's always gonna be someone to buy your old .22 to do the exact same thing.

Wow, ammo's gone up since I last bought any. $.62 a round for .30-06.

Now I don't feel so bad about going shooting only once a year.

Shit last batch of .308 I bought worked out 54.5 cents a round after shipping, It was Federal red box golden eagle. And the last batch of Federal GMM I bought was about 85 cents a round. Where they hell are you guys buying .223 at that costs that much. Should be about $350 a 1000 for decent ammo and upwards of 650 a 1000 for Black Hills match or FGGM. I dont shoot .223 so I dont really care just wondering more than anything.


.22 can still be bought for next to nothing works out at about 3 cents a round.

Scabies: Everything has been covered well, I am just going to reiterate, Shotgun for Home defense, Cheap reliable and common Mossberg 930 with 5, 6,7,8 + one in the chamber capacities depending on which sub model you go with, its one of better entry level auto loaders that will hold that kinda fire power. If you want to go a little cheaper then a Rem 870, or Mossy 500 will do you just as well. They are pump actions and I have a 870 with an extended mag sitting in my closet.

For rifle, like bishop said get a simple bolt action .22lr and a decent rim fire glass on it (assuming you want to use a scope). And learn your fundamentals and practice with it . Not saying dont get an AR too, just the .22lr you can learn and practice on the cheap and get into a good one with a 1000 rounds and glass for less than 400 bucks to practice with.

I got about 360 into my 2 Mosins. 2 are currently operational, ( one '43 round and one '25 hex) the first one i bought i have since turned into a parts kit. The receiver was cut very sloppy and over time became harder and harder to cycle the bolt, and to the point where it wouldn't eject at all. I hold the belief that the extractor grove was cut by a drunk wookie. So i stripped it, all the small parts are in a ziplock in my toolbox with soem oil on them. eventually im going to seperate the barrel from the receiver and use the receiver for a paper weight.

my other two cycle almost butter smooth

my next gun purchase will be in a year or 2, considering a PTR91, or an LRB M14. Im going to be so pissed if they ban this stuff in the mean time, so pissed.

I have a problem with my Mosin. When I go to cycle it, sometimes the next round (but usually the first round) won't slide up into the chamber. It just chills down there like "fuck you!" and jams up. I free it up by opening the bottom of the magazine, and generally that causes it to shift into a position that favors it sliding into the chamber.

I've tried taking it apart, oiling everything up, etc, etc. No dice.

Any thoughts?
