Yup Fiend-stine finally released her bill.

I dont think its got enough traction, but you never know what goes on in the middle of the night. All though house passage is going to be all but impossible. I be we will end up with Magazine prohibition again though

I agree. They usually ask for a mile and get an inch...

So gun fags. I finally signed up to take my concealed carry course.

I don't plan on carrying all the time, I mainly want it for when we take road trips and the like.

I'm leaning very heavily toward a compact .45 such as the Springfield XDm or maybe even a Kimber 1911 Carry model (although much pricier), any suggestions?

I realize .40 and 9mm will be cheaper to plink with, but I know realistically as much as I would go shoot, it's a moot point.

          What say ye?

Also suggestions on where to go ahead and get some decent plinking ammo and defense ammo online would be nice.

I am a total n00b when it comes to guns so I'm looking for some opinions. Im going to purchase my first gun (of any kind) here soon. I want a handgun for the range and have narrowed it down to:

              Ruger p95
              Glock 17
              Springfield XD

All 9mm (cheap ammo) and I want something 'full size.' Ive shot a glock 17 9mm before and really liked the feel. However, lately ive been thinking the ruger may be the best choice for me as the pricetag is about half of the glock or springfield. What do you guys think?

also, do i need any kind of license or concealed carry just to tote the gun back and forth to the range or my buddy house?

You get what you pay for. What ever shoots best for you is the one you want though, even if its the Ruger. As for a license, nothing is needed, just remember the 3 step rule and your good.

as far as manufacturer, all the real brand names are viable choices. the only caution would be the guns made in south america.

i predict you'll learn enough in your course to make an informed decision on what to buy. however, a .45 compact is a lot of gun for an irregular shooter.

luckygunner.com is my favorite ammo supplier- all bets are off these days though to find good value.

                      Ok, first on concealed carry...

Refer to your individual state for laws. However as far as i know, as long as its in a case and away from you in transport, then your good to/from range. But i live in FL and I know that's the law.

For concealed carry, depends on what you want to lug around. I live in a very warm area and wear shorts and tshirts alot. My go-to carry weapon is a 380 sub compact. I have the Taurus TCP, a buddy the Ruger LCP, another the S&W Bodyguard. Some people use the compact models for full size guns like the Glock 19 or M&P9c. These are very nice but weigh a bit more.

As for first gun, depends on what your likes and needs are. Mine was my ccw. Then i can get a full size for home/range. In terms of which brand or model, shoot one better you buy it. Some love the simplicity of the Glock, others the heft of a 1911... It depends on your taste. Shoot it, read reviews, get what you like. From my experience there is no one perfect gun

Not necessarily true... We dint have sny law like that here. Rule is must be full encased and away from person. We also don't have a differentiation in loaded vs mag out and empty. So even if there is no mag at all but the gun is in the center console, its illegal

Good luck! Not the best time to be needing to buy ammo :(

Original owner bought it new in 1995, put around 400 rounds through it, then put it in the safe until now. I picked it up and am confident I could double my money on it. It's almost too nice to shoot. He wasn't lying when he told me it was like new. It even came with the factory manual and target in it's original case.

myinfernal, can you post or PM me what you paid for yours? Also, where did you get it? I have one in that same condition with less then 3 mags thru it. I know you were looking for quite some time. Not sure if it matters, but mine is also the same vintage (year). It does not say, "Made in New Hampshire" on the slide like later years.

                            Thanks! John

I carry my Kimber 1911 and love it. Shots awesome and extremely accurate for a 4" platform. Great feel and not to heavy with 7 in the magazine. I'm actually considering getting the 3" platform Kimber as I'd like something a tad bit smaller.

I also carry my glock but prefer my Kimber. As someone else mentioned you do get what you pay for in most cases.

there is no registration. Be of legal age with Drivers License and go to the show and find one. Buy from a dealer and he will then run a back ground check after you fill out the form. Once it comes back clear you can purchase the gun. Find out of there is a hold rule. If that is the case purchase only from dealers right in your area for you to be close enough to drive after the waiting period. (have a CCW and you do not have to wait)
