Yeah... a long time ago (since 1995 and 1997), but the Gun Control Act of 1968 made it illegal for civilians to import the G25 or G28.
The G42 has enough safety features or points to be OK to import I guess.
I picked up a mag with it on the cover, but still fail to see a reason to be interested in one.
Found this on another forum and think it's a good piece (w/ data & tables):
WHY WE'VE HAD AN AMMUNITION SHORTAGE
But quick conclusion on why there's less on the shelves... (more people shooting = more ammo demand)
Why Has Demand Gone Up?
There are now more than 5 million women participating in the shooting sports, an increase of 46.5 percent since 2001, according to the NSSF. The number of gun owners in America surpassed 100 million a few years ago and all indicators show it is still growing. More gun owners means more ammunition being shot. Also, as the most popular firearms being sold in recent years have been semi-automatic handguns and rifles, it only makes sense that these gun sales would lead to more ammunition being purchased and shot.
There are a lot of other numbers tracking the growth of gun sales and gun ownership that have led to more ammunition sales. For example, July 2013 was the 38th straight month that the number of background checks called into the National Instant Criminal Background Check System (NICS) increased when compared to the same month the previous year.Comment

Sold my Mosin M44 and a spam can of ammo yesterday, just ordered one of these to "replace" it. Henry Frontier 20" in .22lr. I've always wanted a lever gun and would like something that can shoot .22 short and .22 long.
Like stagecoaches, swinging saloon doors and Pony Express riders, there are many innovations of the Old West that have long faded from use and live on only in Western movies and history books. But there are still a few frontier staples that were so effective and ahead of their time that they remain in use

I agree they are a bit on the high side, When I was in the market I ended up going with a DSA FAL over the M14's just based on a good deal I got with the FAL. But I will one day soon own a M14 to sit along side the FAL.Build your own dreams, or someone else will hire you to build theirs!

Yea I've been looking at FAL's too, since they are basically what killed the M14's. Guns take the backburner to car though. Really need an LSD suspension and a better powerplant first haha.1989 BMW 325is | 2019 Ford Ranger FX4willschnitz
