Thanks man. I really love this 7mm-08. You know around here there isn't many places that we can shoot over 100yrds. It's kind of hard to justify buying a "long/medium" range gun when the most I'll shoot it is like 100yrds.

Now to see if I should get a Rem 700 or one of the budget guns like a Ruger American in 7mm-08.

personally I would put a little more money with the cost of the 700 and get a Tikka T3. your getting 95% of full Sako A7 that way.

After having shot and owned many 700's in my life, It all changed when I tired out a Sako 75 in 270 that a buddy of mine has had for a long time. I am slowly swapping a lot of my camberings over to Sako 75's and 85's from rem, win, Browing and a wby or 2.

Yea, my sister has a Tikka M595 in .243 and it is a really nice shooting gun. Tex, if your not shooting anything farther than 100yds, I would get a smaller caliber. Your not trying to reach out and touch something at 300+ yards. I think the best "close range" rifle caliber is 300aac Blackout. We have an AR in 300 Blackout to hunt Pigs up near the Oklahoma border, and shooting supersonics, it's a perfect at 100-150 yards. And shooting subsonics your shooting 230gr bullet, which is like shooting something with a bus lol.

My 300WM loves 208gr Amax's and pushing them at somewhere near 2950 from the muzzle is like shooting something with a mid sized sedan

I have not been up on the 556 based 30cal stuff. I would say for deer inside of 300 yards a 243win would be my choice. or even a 260 rem. The 6 and 6.5mm projectiles have some of the most inheriant accuracy traits. I really want to get a 260rem for fun and mid to large game and pest control as you can get close to 300wm trajectories with a bit lighter projectiles on paper with them with far less recoil, and in a 308 based cartridge... Its a perfect deer/yote/pig chambering, DPMS is offering a 260 rifle and LMT has a barrel swap for the MWS, I am sure there are others out there too.....

I was thinking about range time being limited on range. However, hunting could be out to 300+yrds... Not sure as I dont have a place yet to go hunting. Right now I'm going to the Corps land and can only use smooth bore shotty or a bow. I dont have any bows so there is just the shotty to use.

6.5 creedmore(sp) I've heard good things about that as well. Thoughts?

Recent trip shooting left a lot to be desired of the 1-6 BDC Razor I have. The reticle was extremely inaccurate for the rounds I was shooting and there was little consistency between brands, we're talking 10 moa hold difference. This thing popped up for 30% off, reviewed extremely well so I pulled the trigger on it! It's definitely a lot of power for shooting .223, but I'm having fun reaching out quite far so this should help. Plus it's going to be great to just swap over to a .308 should I ever chose to.

interesting, there should be plenty of documentation on what ammo and general rifle specs that razor BDC was designed around, if your way off from those your going to see some significant deviance. That said 10 mil Thats A LOT of deviance and there is either something VERY wrong with that optic and needs go back to Vortex for service (which they should be very happy to do with the life time no questions asked warranty) or your ammo choices are seriously out of spec loadings for your cambering. IE cheap ammo that was underloaded form the get go to get the cost down, but even then it should be a 10mil hold at reasonable ranges.

Bushy elites are supposed to be great, I haven't messed with them at all though. Though. FFP is going to be trip to get used too, I have shot with them and just seem to have a hard time getting used to them.

Good luck finding ammo, never seen it for sale round here.

My vote would be .260rem or .270win. Like sleeve said, the .26cal rounds are some of the most ballistically sound rounds out there. The .270win is similar, with a little bit more oomph to get it out there to make the 350-400+ yard shots. But if your shooting more than 400yds, just get yourself a 300 Win Mag.

I have a .260rem myself in a Remington Model Seven, and it is probably the best whitetail gun for < 300yd shots out there IMO, atleast cartridge-wise. If I could id have it in a Browning A-Bolt (what my .270win is).

And mrsleeve, iirc my 7mm-08 has a Bushnell Elite. Great scope and great company to work with. I had a Simmons on there before but after shooting a deer and gutshotting it bad, I found it was broken (shooting 5in right, no matter what changes were made). Gave Bushnell a call (they now own Simmons) and they sent me one of their scopes. Sighted It in, and it's pretty much held true since then. Nice eye relief, extremely clear, great product.

Ordered a scout mount, gg@g light mount, and Stream light Protac HL for the Colt. Been wanting to put a light on it for a while.

Picked up a Remington 870 Super Mag Turkey/Waterfowl recently... Cleaned it before I shot it and cycled it about a thousand times... I shot clays with it last weekend and it's super smooth. No issues with cheap ammo either.

I've never shot one or even held one... But from what I've heard, it's more "neat concept" than it is "functional rifle".

People have offered the Ruger 10/22 takedown as a better alternative. Or a .22 pistol.

Neat concept AND reliable simple rifle. The 10/22 is a great solution too.

Since 1959 the venerable AR-7 has been the choice of U.S. Air Force pilots who need a small-caliber rifle they can count on should they have to punch out over a remote area. Through the years the AR-7's reputation for portability, ease of operation and reliability has carried over to the civilian world. Today it's
