so i ended up taking a long lunch to check out the fnx today... i liked it... ALOT. they fortunately had one to rent so i did so. the decocker was very nice and quite accurate once you got used to the gun/sights.

only a few minor quips with it though - it was a little bit heavy for me, but i don't plan on carrying it so whatevs. the other was that just like most reviews have said, the checkering/stippling on the grip is very aggressive. great for minimizing movement in your hand, not so great at keeping skin on your hand, especially not for long range sessions. glad i only had 100 rounds to use. definitely something i'd want gloves for with extra ammo

regardless, it's not as nice to shoot as the 1911 i borrowed last week, but after reading about how finnicky they can be i think i'll be going for the FN when i'm ready for my next piece within the next couple of months

FWIW this was a mag dump from my fnp45 at about 15 feet IIRC. Wasn't going for accuracy but ended up with every bullet on target. You will be very happy with it.

superimposed on an aggressor = that'll do just fine

i also imagine a mag dump is a goddamn handful on this thing! so not bad

I am a SIG guy we have 3 220 variants laying around here, and I used to shoot H&K ......

Even I am considering a FNX for the next Pistol purchase (or a Sig 227)........ I like it that much.

Though I am considering getting myself a XDS in 45 1st as more compact 45acp carry gun opposed to my 220 elite

i've eyeballed the fuck out of some sigs (big fan of all metal) and USPs (just because of their track record) myself, but i'm a lefty so the FN really has the appeal for me.

that XDS seems nice, but the capacity sucks. guess it is pretty damn small though, so what can you expect

whelp, ended up springing for a 1911... or i guess i should say two 1911s.

didn't even know the 80% frame law was even a thing until this morning. i was a little skeptical that this was legal until i did some research... and sure enough, it is (federally, also legal in my state)

ordered the mill/jig + full size frame (non-tactical, i think it just looks weird on such a classic piece) + compact frame. for those who are interested, MDStealth will get you 10% off the deal.

Stealth Arms manufactures the 1911 Platypus, a double stacked 1911 that takes glock mags, Custom 1911 Pistols, and 1911 Parts and Accessories. We precision machine our parts in-house in the USA to ensure superior quality and fit.

super pumped for my TWO future ghost guns. from what i've seen i can build the two of them for less than $600, though from what i've read that's for junk. i'm also not trying to spend $1500 on nighthawk stuff.... does anyone have some good 'middle of the road' suggestions?

pimped out my shooty gat after a trip to a gun show. Got a vortex red dot, handguard, and foregrip for $200. Then I put a bunch of holes in things!

will do, i've already got a tracking number (no delivery date yet though). found a better video of some chickie "machining" the frame and boy, it seems damn simple.

the biggest issue with the 80% guns until now has been **finishing the machine work** - per ATF law/guidelines you have to do EVERYTHING yourself using YOUR OWN equipment. by technicality, you're not supposed to get help from a friend/shop or use someone elses' equipment. basically, this limited 80% guns to people with a mill or face subpar/shitty results.

but now that ANYONE can crank these out ANYWHERE... i don't see this staying legal for long. depending on what my finished product comes out like, i might just even pick up a few extra frames to prepare for future wear/banning - not sure how long that aluminum's gonna last

**edit** didn't choose the best wording there

very nice find, but finishing and coats are nothing to worry about. You can send them to a finisher or a polisher if you want. See instagram MiamiGunSmith

the 80 percent thing has been around for ever. Most violent actions don't come from someone that is going to build it first. I build a ak from a folding flat and a parts kit. Came out amazing and falls under this same thing.

You got me really thinking on these 1911 though, I just sent MiamigunSmith if he would be interested in doing a build party. Lets see what he has to say.

whoops, didn't mean that kinda finishing - moreso finishing the "machine" work, didn't word that too well. this, IMO, is much more streamlined than strapping a jig to a mill (let alone a shitty harbor freight mill vice thing for drill presses)

then again, we might be OK considering a lot of people have reservations about aluminum frames... might keep the popularity down. way i see it though, is if aluminum is good enough for engines & trusting the lives of 100's of people with on airplanes it's good enough for a gun that'll maybe get 1k rounds run through it per year (ok maybe more than that, we'll see how well my prospective handloading plans go)

on the subject of finishing, i'm still trying to decide what i wanna do. i'm a sucker for stainless steel, though i'm not sure how well that'll work out for the whole package. for now, i'm leaning towards a SS slide and maybe anodize the frame black after i get everything fitted right. you know... something like this

oh and BTW, as far as a party would go, as far as i know you can do the final machine work as long as you "own" the equipment. you'd have to look into the legality of it, but you could have one person buy the jig, draft up two "bills of sale" - one selling the jig to a new owner, one selling the jig back to the old owner - and you could get away, legally, with using the same jig as long as each BOS was signed at the "appropriate time"

you don't have to own the equipment, you just have to do the work. I think you would be surprised just how many build parties there are. Even Vince Buckles from the old tv show does AK builds all the time. Roughly $1600 for the weekend build.

I did my 80% AR on someone's machines. Just did the work myself and changed tooling. We went a bit over kill using the $500,000 cnc!

I'd do a black slide and silver frame, mmmmmm reverse two tone...

I'd also get a clean slide with no cocking serrations from STI and do them rather like my E series but without the front ones
