The S54 is old news, why would they put it in a 1 series?

I just saw an article on it in Automobile mag at the dentist today. They said if there is an M1 it will most likely have the S54. I took a phone picture of the article, and if it is readable on here I will post it up.

Ummmmm, that's probably because there HAS been an M variant of most of the BMW series.

Actually, BMW has stated several times that they have no desire to offer M versions of every model they offer, whereas Mercedes does that with AMG. The 3, 5, 6, and Zs will probably always be the only lines that offer it.

They've also stated that they do not plan to offer an M version of the 1 series as it would be too expensive for it to be marketable in the compact segment. Not to mention they're already giving it a motor thats repeatedly been putting down over 300rwhp on dynos bone stock. The S54 doesn't even make that kind of power.

ITB's are baller, and it's a great way to finish off the production run of the S54. This also saves tooling money from building a new engine for an M1.

but with a 135i, why? Unless it's boosted... :evil:

Yep my thoughts exactly. I'm not a big fan of the coupe for whatever reason. Alpine white hatch (with diesel power) please...

I've heard rumors on the 1/2-series forum (2addicts.com, or something like that) of an M version with the S54 engine. Neat.

Not really, thats just BMW's marketing terminology. All its going to do is apply the brake to the unloaded spinning wheel in hopes of transferring torque the other wheel. That never works as well as a true lsd and alot of power gets converted to heat in the brakes rather than making it to the pavement.

There is an LSD available for the 335i so i'm guessing that while it may not COME with one, you can probably BUY one for it.
