Interestingly, at most HPDEs, concentrated drivers go up to 150MPH and still don't crash. That's because drivers are concentrated on what they do, and all cars go in the same direction at basically the same speed.

We should have a large, expensive course that is required to get a license.
That would force the government to fund mass public transportation solutions. Which I would prefer to use during the week. I could easily save the money for the proper driving courses and a license.
It should also require a retest every 5 years. and a dr. note that you are physically capable. including vision, reaction time and that you are not going to drop dead on the interstate.
One other one is that 6000 lb missles called Tahoes and Expeditions and H2s should be out lawed.
but all that would reduce our use of oil and reliance on other counties. Truly a conundrum.
BTW. I too live in ATL. GA 400 is a scary bitch!Comment

It's the boneheads that have a 5 mile highway commute to work and never open the rear hatch or use the 4WD that make them seem like a waste.Comment

limits are not raised because when the roads in your state/city are higher then the government feels is a practical speed for that area of road you lose funding for road repairs and such.Comment

Most people use their trucks and suv's for what they where made for. And maybe they can't aford another car to drive around in so they just use what they have. I allways liked my truck's/suv's. But they was the little Dodge Dakota's and S-10's. I never needed anything bigger, i allways found that they did the job for what i needed them to do.Last edited by JasonC; 07-06-2007, 11:41 AM.

Its never going to happen. I don't want these idiots I see on the road around me to be able to legally do 100+mph. They can't even drive sanely at 70.
Americans have been bred into this type of highway etiquitte, or lack thereof. Sadly, its become part of our culture.

There's nothing wrong with SUV's. There's just some people that don't have daily activities that require them and wouldn't understand the usefulness.Comment

We should have much more strict laws on getting a license. Kids don't even need ANY driving lessons at all. That's insane. And people wonder why kids are in so many accidents.
I've already had my 10 year old daughter driving my Integra in large parking lots and it's a stick. I don't want to worry about her driving skills.
In America we need speed limits. If we actually made people responsible for their actions and make getting a license something people respect then I would say to remove the speed limit.Your signature picture has been removed since it contained the Photobucket "upgrade your account" image.

My ex lived in Jamacia for a number of years and she said that in order to pass the driving test there, the testing offical will put you in a stickshift car facing upward on a steep hill and will put a matchbox behind the wheel. If you roll over the matchbox while attempting to go up the hill, you automatically fail.
In maryland and DC (and I think virginia too) you don't even need to go to driving school in order to get a license. I think that if you go to school, your insurance is cheaper and you are required to get driver education if you want to drive at age 16.
But even most of the driving schools in my area are pitiful. The classes are usually taught by the local high school basketball coach and they give you the answers to the test. So you copy everything straight out of the book, watch a movie and then go home. Then as far as the on-the-road teaching, that was really terrible. They required 6 hours of behind the wheel training in 2-hour segments which meant 4 people get in the car with the instructor, we go to 7-11 and get slurpees and then we all go home 20 minutes later.. and all 4 of us get credit for a 2 hour lesson. The only fundamental thing that we did was take turns doing the driving test course and then we were done.
And the road test is really not that hard. You just drive into the course, do a 3 point turn, parallel park, and then you get your license. I have known many people fail as a result of a technicality- like forgetting to buckle up, or running a stop sign (several on the course at odd places) but for the most part, if you have breath in your body, its relatively easy to pass.Comment
