In maryland and DC (and I think virginia too) you don't even need to go to driving school in order to get a license. I think that if you go to school, your insurance is cheaper and you are required to get driver education if you want to drive at age 16.

Same in MA, permit at 16 and if u take a class you can take the test at 16.5 if not wait till your 17. however if u do take the class your insurance is cheeper

I say just slow down and deal with it man... so what if you can't cruise at 90+. If you want to go fast, go to a track.

However, I do thing that license testing should be MUCH more intense and detailed. Most states will license a person who is a legal mental disaster. Make it more expensive, and more serious, and that will weed out the morons.

My ex lived in Jamacia for a number of years and she said that in order to pass the driving test there, the testing offical will put you in a stickshift car facing upward on a steep hill and will put a matchbox behind the wheel. If you roll over the matchbox while attempting to go up the hill, you automatically fail.

my unlce told me that when he took the test in jamaica that the instructor put his gold watch behind the tire!! roll back and you fail AND you owe him a new watch

My grandfather tells me the same story. But it was for the test in Maryland in the 1950's.
