    U2 LYRICS

    "In God's Country"

    Yeah

    Desert sky
    Dream beneath a desert sky
The rivers run but soon run dry
    We need new dreams tonight

    Desert rose
Dreamed I saw a desert rose
Dress torn in ribbons and in bows
Like a siren she calls to me

    Sleep comes like a drug
    In God's Country
    Sad eyes, crooked crosses
    In God's Country

    Set me alight
We'll punch a hole right through the night
    Everyday the dreamers die
See what's on the other side

    She is liberty
And she comes to rescue me
    Hope, faith, her vanity
    The greatest gift is gold

    Sleep comes like a drug
    In God's Country
    Sad eyes, crooked crosses
    In God's Country

    Naked flame
She stands with a naked flame
I stand with the sons of Cain
Burned by the fire of love
Burned by the fire of love

      Bend Bulletin Article:

Hahahahaha, I've been to Bend and its FAR from what I would consider a "Best Town". You guys have some serious backwoods inbred rednecks running around that town. I went to that big mall that has the Helly Hanson store and the Red Robin. Seriously, that was some of the best people watching I have ever done in my life.

PNW is beautiful country but having an argument over who lives in a better part of the country is seriously retarded. But I digress, I'm glad you guys think that the Midwest is such a shithole because I've never lived in a better place and we dont need any of you moving here!!!

The Bend piece says median income is 29k & an average house is over 300k. How does the average wage earner hope to be able to own a home?

My brother lived in Seattle from 93-98 (right after he paid off his 90 Miata smooth move!) he was unable to put the top down 80%+ of the time. I visited him numerous times and we went all over the PNW over the years. It has amazing natural landscapes but the rain is relentless (and I like cold & rain)

I am not putting the PNW down but I'd rather live where rain is not a way of life.

wait? you are using a biased source [nitrorustlerdude] to support your outdoor-living oriented city? please. that's like finding the best reviewed cities for surfing if you are in Cali or FL... have you any reasoning ability?

similar to what SuperDuper posted, the place is popular with certain individuals
I have relatives in Bellingham, Washington. It is a great town

I found HAC's PNW trilogy ("The Hill of the Ravens", "A Distant Thunder" and "A Mighty Fortress") to be intoxicatingly entertaining! Many Whites, having the same frustrations and sentiments as those portrayed in HAC's books, are already migrating to the Pacific Northwest. It's only a matter of time until our people begin to occupy key positions in governing bodies throughout the PNW.

great things you can find when searching about PNW. I don't think i could stand a place established by people running from diversity (the move North from California) regardless of their mountains. There are towns everywhere that have folks scury away from the "others" but few places that fill whole states with an attempt to.

              Hahahaha!!

Anyways, anytime you insult a persons location, like Charlie does when I say I'm from Maryland, it starts a fight to prove your "hood" is awesome. Get over it, everyone lives in the state of awesome.

Nah, I won't defend my hood. I've never had really strong feelings of regionalism.

I like where I live, and I am comfortable with my surroundings, but I'm not going to try to say YO MASSACHUSETTS BIRTHPLACE OF AMERICA or some shit like that.

                Massachusetts. It's not for everyone.

You're a dumbass for believing what a few dickheads on another forum said. Thats no different than someone citing a r3v thread for reference. I have lived here my entire life and I have seen nothing but acceptance for minorities. I have never seen a skinhead in my life much less heard of any sort of gatherings in the area. Washington is one of the most liberal states in the US. If you are looking for skinheads, they dwell on the east side of the mountains and into Idaho. That area is comprised of mostly farmland and desert and their people have completely different political, social and economic beliefs. Eastern Washington is in fact so different that many people want to split the state in half and make 2 states.

So holmes, are you going to tell me a number of people haven't been migrating north from California and the state isn't populated by hippies and whites? The posts on that site hopefully aren't shared by the majority of the populace but they have identified the PNW as a "white haven". I enjoy diversity and when you grow up with it, you sometimes can't stand those who haven't. Especially when it is narrow-minded Americans who can't think across borders at all.

Yes, there are a lot of people migrating from California. Yes, this state is populated by mostly hippies and whites. No, this is not a white haven. We have one of the largest percentages of Asians in the country and the Hispanic population is growing (obviously). I can guarantee there are plenty of other states with a higher percentage of whites than Washington. No matter what anyone says, we want nothing to do with white supremecy.

TX is only nice for the opportunities it has, with 3 of the top 10 largest cities in the US only a few hours away from each other. I would go back to VA in a second if I could still AX and get the chances to do shit like I can here.

Exactly. And I don't think teh midwest is a shithole. While I've never been to MN, I love IA, NE, MO and MI. The people are much more hospitable in the midwest (in my humble opinion of course).

And to that other poster, there are quite a few hippies here, but they're all segregated in Bellingham so it's not a problem.

                            haha, thanks.

In all seriousness, if any of you get a chance to visit Portland, I would take it. It's not a place to vacation to, but a beautiful city nonetheless. I live in downtown Portland and I love it. It's a very 'liveable' city, large but not overwhelming. I love SF to death, but it's so fucking huge (compared to what I'm used to).

Long story short, there are nutso people in every state of the nation.

even so, I'm annoyed by the 'culture' I've seen from much of the PNW and people who have migrated east from there. it's even worse sometimes than the East coasters everyone is annoyed by (prep schoolies). The people from PNW I have met, and correlate with some board members, are either always talking about themselves, or their things, or how much they love the area to people who similarly love their own different place of origin, or in a different but equally annoying way there are the emo kids with no problems and try to complain about life anyway. both are utterly bored regardless of how much there is said to see or do. The people I like become involved with soccer or just hanging having fun instead of constantly seeking to brag and/or complain. obviously not everyone acts like that, but the worst is from areas like PNW, Barrington, IL, and Miami, FL. As renowned as the education at my school is, I am bothered by some of those who infest it who can't come to grips of dealing with others or reality. If you know anyone at at Wash U in STL, maybe you know what I'm talking about. Certainly people like that are all around, but the % spikes in particular areas.

for those laid back and just like to have a chill good time, i'm sorry. more people like you should represent the region than the tools I meet

Well, it's a bummer you think so badly of the PNW, but whatever. It's been a pretty cool place to grow up for me. Just enough city influence to keep you current, and just enough country to keep you true.

Your opinion is valid to you, but I know whenever I travel and am asked where I'm from people are nice to me when I say "Washington state". So I guess since I get a bunch of questions about the PNW rather than a hollow "Oh" as a response, that whoever I'm talking to is interested & wants to know more.

Like I said before, PNW may not be "Heaven on Earth", but it treats me right, and if I ever wanted kids I'd like them to get a ton of PNW influence growing up.

As to the racist crap, I don't buy it. I won't even blame Idaho since I have no real 1st hand experiences like that over there (not saying it doesn't exist, just that I've never been witness to it), but the West side of WA state is a pretty big mixing pot of cultures, and it works a lot better in Seattle than a lot of the other major metro areas, so until I hear a Black/Oriental/Latin origin person tell me otherwise, I'm betting it works better here than in a lot of other places.

Come over for the e30 picnic next year, I bet we could change your view if you were willing to open your mind. I'll buy you lunch @ XXX if you still can honestly call us a "bunch of douches".

It's not how you handle the good times, but the faith you keep in the bad that defines you.
