Beckham cannot assume that the players in America won't be as good as those in Europe. Sure european leagues develop players through many levels and care about the game more, but it's not like all of our players are bad.

I completely concur. Look at the American "greats"... Donovan, Beasley, Adu, and maybe old school Alexi L. All their skill combined barely compares to some of the greats of Europe such as Ryan Giggs, Christiano Ronaldo, Zidaine, Wayne Rooney...I mean the list goes on and on. Granted, in the global spectrum, America is doing much much better. As Robin Williams so eloquently stated, we are no longer in the Special Olympics category. But you have to take into account that America wasnt even a presence in World Cup soccer until what, the late 90s?
