"Concerns had been raised about the safety of the runway during heavy rain."

"On Monday afternoon, a smaller plane skidded off the runway onto the nearby grass in similar conditions."

"there has been concern for some time about safety at Congonhas during heavy rain."

"In February, a judge briefly banned flights in and out of the airport, which is the busiest in Brazil."

"Pilots had complained that water was pooling on the surface of the landing strip, making braking difficult and occasionally causing planes to skid out of control."

You can see the building it crashed into on the right side. It's the white building that says TAM express on it. If only he had been able to keep the plane straight it might not have been so bad. That building supposedly stores cargo and FUEL!! Who stores fuel in a building at the end of a runway. I also heard that the brakes on a plane [that plane] activates once the wheels begin to roll. Wheels don't necessarily roll when hydroplaning.... Also some reports he might have tried to abort and take off again.

You're being hit with media garbage. No one will know what happened for certain until they further analyse the crash with more evidence.

It seems that the USA is about the only country in the world who gives a shit about public transportation safety to the degree that at least you feel safe when flying here. But other countries seem to be way more lax about safety of aircraft and their facilities

In most other countries the general public has a completely different attitude about dying. In our culture we are so afraid of death that if the news reported that there is a dangerous man on the loose stabbing people with a paper knife we would believe it according to the "better safe than sorry" clause in our Articles of Amercian Preservation.

In Pakestan, a man can get on a bus with an unsheathed survival knife with an 8-inch blade and nobody is going to pay him any mind.

Seeing some examples, I highly disagree. Some people flip over any little thing.

In many states, including Oregon (except schools, courthouses, federal buildings, etc.) a non-concealed blade is perfectly legal. In the city I might get some looks, but if I venture 20 miles out into timber and farming country folks will complement my newest blade: a handmade puma olive wood fixed:

Yeah happened to see that first on Univision last night. I was suprised that CNN & Headline News went ahead with it's regular programming (i think it was Anderson Cooper 360) and didnt put in a breaking news bulletin.
All plane disasters are terribly unfortunate.

@ Atomic- the key word in your initial post is deffinitely "SEEMS"
Not looking to argue with you, but just felt the need to point that out.
