This crash is being blamed soley on speed. The girl who died was a friend of my sister. The driver of the car is now being charged with vehicular homicide. I know that I am going to do my best to keep my speed down from now on. Especially with people in the car.

Cars have become so comfortable and easy to drive these days that inexperienced drivers really have no concept of how fast they are really going. I think that because teenaged drivers see everyone speeding, they see no harm in doing it themselves, however, those of us who have been driving for the better part of 20 years have a better understanding of when its safe to go faster and when its wise to go slower.. even if it means going lower than the speed limit.

I am very sorry for your, and your sister's loss. My thoughts and prayers go to the friends and family.
I too try to keep my speed down. This is an example of why and also, you never know when there could be a person walking or a big, or small animal in the road. Speeding on backroads and small side streets is the worst thing you can do.Originally posted by cabriodster87"Honey? What color is this wire? Is it the same as that one? Are you sure? ive heard that if your drunk and driving, your so relaxed that you just go with the flow of the accident or the impact.
So given that, its my opinion that when the car goes out of control, the driver has an extra 1 to 2 seconds to prepare for the impact.

I'm used to e30's, I got mine when I was 15 and it sounded like a tin can going down the highway. 65mph seemed fast as hell. Compare that to a 2007 audi I just drove, fuck I was doing 85 and I didn't even notice how fast I was going. It seemed like everything was in control and just fine.
Now hit a sharp curve in that going 85, and you will probably roll the fucker.
Same concept reminds me when james may was driving the bugatti veyron. After slowing down from doing 200+ or whatever, he said it was like when you open your door a little premature as your car is still rolling, and he was going to do the same then looked down and he was going 80mph still, lol.Rollin' with a Geistkuchen

When I was a teenager (but not old enough to drive) my dad let my friend and I sit on the back bumper of the car as he drove us to the park 3 blocks away. He was only doing 15-20 miles per hour but the ride was SCARY. It felt like he was doing at least 70! We arrived safely at our destination but that was a stunt that I NEVER wanted to do again! So at that point, I had an understanding of how fast a car REALLY goes. But somewhere between 16 and 25 I had forgotten about that and I felt much safer behind the wheel than I did on the back bumper. But after age 25 I started slowing down.
I think that with age comes paranoia.
