R/C car suggestions

i had a traxxas nitrp sport and broke it every time i used it. Then i got a Mugen MBX 4RR and the only thing have ever broke one of the rear shock shafts got bent when it came down from about 30ft in the air. Did the jump about 20 times before that. Moral of the story, 1/8 scale buggies FTW

Heres what me and my buddy race. Tamiya F201s all wheel drive they are sweet! This is before we painted them up.

I ran 2 packs through my car last night. It was a lot of fun. It understeers like a pig with the rubber tires, I attribute this to the massive ammount of toe-in it came with. Going to 0 toe or a little toe out will help it throttle-oversteer, right? At the expense of high speed stability. With the Yokomo drift tires, its a whole different story. Drifting is a lot harder than it looks with these things.

That was my last RC car and it was worth every bit i spent. However, if you like drifting and peeling out sidesways like i do. Buy 5 more sets of tires.

If you want good drift tires, get ABS pipe from the hardware store. Take a wheel with you and find pipe that fits tight on the rim. Then just cut it into rings the width of the wheels.

damn, i used to waste shit-tons of money on electric r/c cars... the last one i bought was a tamiya TA04. it was pretty fun, but everytime i play with it i remind myself i own a couple real cars, put away the r/c and go for a drive.

Yeah, I know what you mean. But I figure it's going to get the most use when I am shooting the shit with friends, like when we were doing Billy's M50 swap the other day - we'd take breaks and run the cars for 10-15 minutes and just have a blast. I'm not going to buy any hopups or upgrade the car at all, just run the hell out of it and fix whatever breaks.

Thanks for the offer on the Tamiya, but I don't think I am going to go for a TL01. Though if anybody else has stuff they are willing to sell I'd be interested.

bahaha, i have an old TL01 still!! you cant even buy parts for it anymore. i had the hardest time finding the rear axle/ring gear last time i burnt mine out, and they burn out like every 3x you run it, at least with an 11 turn triple motor. its dorito magic though. lolz

Cool, i got the TC3 nitro and i have no complaints aginst AE.

I just pulled the trigger on the TC4 kit and no hop ups except a set of Volk TE37 rims and drift tires. And a 911 body. I know they are money pits but I will stick to OE replacement parts and its just going t obe something to provide some fun now and again for years. I won't sell my stuff this time (like I did when I was 16 to pay for E30 mods), so whenever I get the itch, I can scratch it.

I didn't say I don't like mine, I just shake my head every time I start the mental math about what I've got wrapped up in these little toys.

That said, I really only mess with my nitro truck (Savage), but occasionally I run the Tamiya M3 - I don't want to beat the M3, but I abuse the truck - the trick is to resist the aluminium "upgrade" parts, and just fix what you break with OEM plastic on the trucks.

If I was starting from zero, I'd look at the Tamiya TT-05 or TL-05, something like that - they have a Enzo on that chassis, and then just get an M3 body & plastics for show. I keep bending axle stubs on my TT-01 chassis.

TJ - as the owner of 3 complete, and tons of spare crap, take whatever you budgeted to spend on R/C stuff - and go to the liquor store.

As much as they are fun, it's a bleeding money wound that just won't clot.

Try and remember why you sold all your old stuff, and keep it in mind anytime this notion strikes you.

At least you aren't into R/C air stuff - my Dad is, and I'd hate to guess what he's got into planes, motors, batteries, and helicopters in his toy room. Keeps him out of the bars though, I suppose.

I'm trying to set a budget and stick to it. I really just want a basic on road electric kit that I can setup for grip and for drifting. We had a shit ton of fun with my friends $80 Tamiya kit. Right now I am looking at TC4's and Sprint 2's, going to be $300-350 with everything. But I am looking for used stuff still, from people like you that don't like them anymore :-P

Funny you wrote that, my plains have way too much money in them, they break all the time, cost a fortune, and is a pain in the ass to go fly unless you belong to a club.

For this reason I've thought about stepping down to a nitro truck I can buzz around my development.
