    HDTV Set up Question.. Please..

Ok, So Ive never had an HDTV til lastnight. I bought a 62" (I think I know ist over 60") DLP TV with 1080p. The model that was on display at best buy obviously had the full screen being used, and it looked great, even though it was only being fed 720p. Well when I get home, I use my regular dish network box, non HDTV, at only 480p, and its only using the center 24" or so of my screen. The same with my PS3, only the center 24" of the screen. Im not using HD cables on either, just the typical RFU ( I think, the red/yellow/white) cables.

HOW THE FUCK do I get this thing to display on the whole screen. Probably a stupid question..

There should be a button to resize your screen on the remote or in the settings features somewhere. My HD tv has a a button to allow to resize to 4 different setting no matter what format you are running

Why aren't you running HDMI or component with the ps3?

        In order of quality:
Composite (red/white for audio, yellow for video)
S Video (goofy little POS 6 pin plug)
        Component (Red, Green, Blue)
HDMI (looks like a computer plug)

You can buy a connector to make your PS into component. It will be the best $30 you have ever spent, but remember that is video ONLY, so you still need to get audio somewhere...the idea being that a reciever handles sound, a TV handles video. Your DVD player will also have a component output (oh yeah, AKA "RGB") so go buy some cables and READ YOUR FUCKING MANUAL!!! :)

        It really helps.

I agree on read the manual, fully. But I got the TV for $1399, as opposed to $2499, because its missing the manual, remote and box, since it was the old display lol. If I had the manual, trust me, Id read it.

I think the PS3 might come with the component cable, I havent looked yet, since Im at work. I never had a use for em though, with a non HDTV. But now I do =\

For Audio, I plug the yellow into my DVD player, which has the surround sound hooked up to it.

You'll find the manual online. Go to the manufactures website and look it up.

Sounds like you need to invest in some cables!

Didn't get the remote ?? Damn those open box sells..... That is what you will need probably to change your screen size regardless of what format you are watching..... Get you a factory remote made for that model TV only !! And download you a user manual from the internet

Because HDMI sucks ass. Go component and run your other audio and what-not separately.

HDMI is the cable-equivalent of TV/DVD/VCR combo units. A whole bunch of shit crammed into one tiny space to try and do everything at once.

Some guys did that at Best Buy here about a year ago, but instead of concrete blocks, they put a large stainless steel door in the box that looked like the TV, and wrapped it up in the white packing paper that the TV comes in, so when the guys at the return desk opened the box to make sure the TV was in there, they saw the oven door wrapped in foam and assumed it was the TV.

I also just throughly read your first post, and just about choked.

You bought an HDTV that you're using with DirectTV, and you didn't buy HD component cables? That's probably your problem right there.

How could you buy an HDTV and not get component cables to go with it?

I plan on getting cables, lets make that clear lol. I just know I gotta upgrade my dishnetwork reciever, to an HD one. And I didnt wanna buy cables if it comes with the cables with the upgraded box. And Ive been told my PS3 comes with hd cables. So again, trying not to waste money after spending as much as I did lastnight. It made me kinda sick =\ that'll wear off when Im playing madden 08 on a 65" 1080p tv though lol

Which tv did you get ?? I am telling you that the problem is a screen aspect ratio that can be changed with the touch of a button on the remote that you did not get because of open box sell
