Very cool job relocation opportunity - my old man recently bought a timeshare property in Honolulu. Got to figure out when he gets to use it so I can go crash the place for a week or so.

As for the probability of ditching your E30, that can be a bummer if you're really into the car. If you do some searching on the net, there are lots of auto shipping services from the mainland to the islands. Don't know if that is an option you may consider seeing you're leaving within a month.

Whatever you decide, best of luck with the new opportunity :-D

you can ship your car here for a little under a grand. but you have to really love your car.

Because of all the super-strict laws (50mph speed limit, over 85=jail) and the police just fucking everywhere, its not worth it to me. I need to get a lawyer for court next month and try to keep them from putting me in jail for an 85+ ticket. Plus there are no tracks here. And there's a bunch of traffic. And it rains almost every day.

Basically, there's a whole lot of great reasons to come to Hawaii. Everyone who gets a chance should do it. But its not a driver's state.

And I thought cali sucked asshole.

I would shoot myself, its too hot and with those driving laws it would be no fun. I want to live in norway where its dead and cold year round.

Take your car or a Honda. Cars are expensive there if you plan to buy one when you arrive.

How far out of town do you plan on living? Honolulu is growing quite rapidly and will continue over the next few years as 5th fleet is adding another Carrier battle group to Pearl Harbor. That is alot of people moving into the area.

What's your budget for living expenses when you get here? I work about a 3 minute walk from the bmw dealership and the area around there is very crowded. You can find decent housing fairly close to that area, but it isn't cheap.
