    Ls1 E30

I am having a bitch of a time trying to find a Euro S50, found lot's in the UK, but nobody will ship it overseas... good prices I might add.. compete motor, trans, loom, DME, for like 900 pounds..

Anyway... tired of looking.. thinking of doing the unthinkable.... LS1 conversion..

    What do you guys think...??

Not too worried about the tech. part of it, just wondering what people think of the idea...

The whole non-bmw motor and all....

What is the stock application of the LS1? is it a racecar? excuse my ignorance on the subject.

your going to get a million different reactions.

its one of the best hp/$ motor available. if you want maximum power for minimal $$$, and good reliability, that may be a great option for you. if you want an all original, concours e30, that's not going to get you there. what do you want to do with the car? Do you have any idea how much a motor swap like that will cost, especially if you are paying someone to do the work? Used C5's are going for ~$20k, think about that. That's a stock vehicle that will rip an LS1 e30 apart. Low speed traction, high speed aerodynamics, and a suspension/brake setup that makes the e30 look like a model T.

LS1 motors came in 98+ f-bodys and 97+vettes and the early GTO's. To me it doesn't matter what motor someone put's in a car unless it is a rare car that needs the original motor put back in it. But you will get alot mixed feedback on putting a american motor in a BMW.

id personally like to keep it in the family

ever thought of going m30? you could probably do one for 1/5th of the cost time fabrication of an ls1 conversion

but yea ideally keep it bmw easier to do plus it has been done hundreds of times and you can easily find any and all information you could ever need on this one website

Ok.. maybe I should have clarified a couple things..

                        1. Tired of waiting for the motor I want.....

                        2. Cost is not exactly an issue, however I don't want to spend 10k+ on either conversion. (talking materials here)

                        3. Doing all the work myself..... If I was going to pay someone to do it, I would just find the car I wanted and buy it.... kinda defeats the purpose doesn't it?

                        4. Purpose of car..... umm... well... something to boot around in, semi-reliable, does donuts with ease, and handles well....

                        5. LS1 are reasonably affordable, easier to obtain (in north america), versus the semi rare euro S50. Bad side, much heavier and kinda looks funny in the engine bay....

                        6. Did I mention tired of looking at my project car and doing nothing with it?

Finally.. I am going to europe this fall, maybe (just freaking maybe) I can buy one then, and crate it myself and ship it home....

                        EDIT:

Here's the host.. if anyone is wondering.....

Do it! That car will look sweet with a LSx in it.

LS1 is not even that heavy if you get the aluminum block version (Z28s had iron bottom end iirc).

All LSx's are aluminum, but the heavy dudy ones for trucks and suv's had cast iron.
