Never underestimate the power of Craigslist and the local newspaper. I bet I probably can get $500 for it, and if not, AT LEAST $400.

It won't matter too much, I'll at least have a good chunk toward the new laptop.

      Windows XP SP2
      Intel D865GLC motherboard
Intel Pentium 4 3.0GHz Hyperthreading CPU
1.0 gig Corsair ValuSelect DDR ram
GeForce 6800 256 MB AGP GPU
Western Digital 30 GB hard drive
      Maxtor 80 GB hard drive
      SoundBlaster 5.1 sound card
      52X CD-RW drive
Dell 19" flat screen CRT monitor
      Logitech mouse
      Microsoft keyboard

Would I be able to get $500 for the whole system? Possibly more?
That's one good machine, it's not the greatest nor the fastest, but the intel/intel motherboard/processor combination is very stable, windows loves intel, it also could make a great Linux server, advertise it in $600.00 and try to get as much as possible, maybe you will not get 500.00 I think closer to 400.00 would be the sale price, but I'm overseas, used P4's here go for 300 without soundblaster and 19" monitor, so with the licensed XP, maybe you will sell it close to what you want.

I'm going to list it at $600 or best offer, see what I get. You never know, and I'm not in a rush. So if I don't get any bites at that price, I can always lower it.

I work at best buy and have 3 friends from geek squad. I think a home built computor, after looking at the parts and talking with my friends is worth between 400-500. around what you are asking. Try 500 O.B.O.
with monitor you probably will sell it

You shouldnt have to much of problem getting what you want out of that pc... Sounds like a good price for your system and is relatively close to what can be bought new on the market today for well over double the cost

Just thought I'd post an update, I sold the computer yesterday with monitor for $400. It's possible that I could have gotten $500, I had one guy that was going to pay it, but he thought the monitor was an LCD. So I got a bit less than I wanted, but it still knocked a huge chunk out of the cost of my new laptop, which I'm posting from now.

Man, for that price I would have kept it (if that's reasonable money wise). I like having a desktop because they are so easy and cheap tp upgrade. Plus, you'll need a backup when you have to send the Dell in to get fixed :p

I am surprised that you got $400. CRAIGSLIST FTW!

I was going to suggest that parting it was your only option because the one thing that was working against you was the fact that the PC was homebuilt. Usually its easier to sell a Dell or Gateway because it is thought to be better built and in some cases it still has the balance of the factory warrenty. Most times when someone sells a homebuilt PC, it is full of cheap components and pirated software. But overall I am glad to hear that you were able to offset some costs.

Generally I give away PC's that I don't need/dont want because I can't deal with the backlash of people complaining about the problems (that they unknowingly cause) and they expect me to fix it or give them back their money. At least if I give it to them, I can tell them that they are getting it "as-is" and I cannot help them with anything else.
