    Almost fell for a scam

I bid on a set of wheels recently. It was no surprise when I lost because I bid low. Two days later I receive a mail from ebay with a second chance offer. I was interested as long as I was only paying the price that I bid. The seller then contacts me to say that shipping is now free. (Hmmm free?) He will arrange for the second chance offer through ebay because he is concered about safe trading. At this point I'm smelling a scam.

His next reply looks like an ebay page, it has my ebay name with feedback number and all the info from the auction. Below that it has a link to western union (next hint, shit this is a scam) and then it lists where to send the payment. It is in the UK.....Hmmm. the seller of my auction is registered to Germany (confirming scam).

As you read this, you are saying DOH! how can you be so dumb.....But until I got the Western Union page, I couldn't be sure. I have the idiots name, bank info and a email address.

So its official, if you are selling a bridge in Nigeria send me a PM (I might be interested)

    Fishing.

That is why they put fishing filters into firefox and ie7. It helps detect when a page isnt actually from where it appears to be. Also, you can look at the little bar at the bottom.
    Im now E30less.

Anything that has to do with western union + overseas = scam.

      good catch on that one.

I got almost got scammed the same way when the seller told me to make the western union money order to france somewhere and told me to write down on the money order that it was a gift... that way it's not traceable.. I immediately said, thanks but no thanks...

I very rarely accept 2nd chance offers.

Only buy from people you know. Friends, forum buddies with more than one week registration, and reputable suppliers.

If an offer is too good to be true. Then, you'll be fucked.
Brake harder. Go faster. No shit.

I have had some of the same shit happen on some EBAY sells I had made(old ps2 system) but they sent me a page that looked like an official paypal and ebay page wanting me to ship out overnight to nigeria and they instead of my shipping charge inserted their price which was $350. I totally smelt scam from the begining and reported everything to EBAY and paypal.... I do not remember the emails that I sent them too but I believe it was the phishing department.... You should never click on a link in their reply email message as it opens up pandoras box ( if you know what I mean ) . I wish EBAY would get this shit under control as is it just about not worth messsing with Ebay any longer because of all of the fraud. On top of that the 2 back to back times this happened to me on the ps2 system I was selling on Ebay and they would only refund me the final value fee but not the Listing fees as well... Fucking asswipes.

Yea, I had the "too good to be true" feeling. I couldn't help trying, hoping on the remote chance that it was true.

If you want to have some fun, email this guy salata01@googlemail.com. Tell him that you are interested in the BBS RS wheels, and you can only pay by western union.

It's next to impossible for eBay to stop scams like this. All these guys need is your email, and then they make their fake eBay copy emails and send them out.

On my instances it was a new registered user who clicked on the buy it now button and then sent me their paypal looking page which was obvious that it was fake and was insisting on me sending my item out overnight to them in nigeria and once my item ships that I was to send them the tracking number so that paypal would release the funds to me.... Both cases were the same.

I personally think that they could do a better job at policing this too. For one they could keep users from using web hosted email accounts. If people were made to use a legit email, ie comcast, that it would show that the person was actually paying for their internet service and would be easier to locate in case of fraud activity. Second if they would change their policy to where users had to put a legit and legal credit card on file and even charge a minimal memership, ie $5 for life of credit card and renew membership when credit card expired, that when a user was to abuse a contract by either doing what happened to me or someones kid was just clicking buy it now on items for the kicks of it.... That the contract for being a member would hold them liable for the purchase and would automatically charge the total to their card for said purchase if they did not do so within a certain amount of days.... or at least when a seller has had fraudulant activity happen, like for instance what happened to me just give me my listing fee back as well along with the final value fee that they do give back. I did all the correct forwarding of emails to the phishing departments and even did the live chat with several departments as well...... So in fact they could do better IMHO
