Here's a little story.

A couple of years ago. I was driving in my 2002 along a main boulevard in downtown Montreal. Then, at a bus stop, I see a 30 year old lady hitch hiking. I thought that perhaps she just missed the bus and wanted to get somewhere quick. So I stopped and asked the lady to get in. She did not look any sexy or ugly. Just normal.

I started the car and drove away, asking here when was last bus and where she was going. She looked at me and said something like "I don't think you get it. Perhaps it is better you stop me right here."

What did I say? Was I offensive? Then, after I stopped and dropped her after a 1 minute ride, I suddenly got it. She was a prostitute, pretending to hitch hike to "fool" the law. Damn. Am I innocent.

So, from now on, I never give rides too anyone within the city's limits.

The more professional hookers never do. Many of them represent themselves as a massage therapist or a cleaning lady or an independant consultant.. Which once someone referred me to a cleaning lady and I hired her because I really needed my house cleaned. She was really a prostitute but it didn't occur to me immediately. All I knew at the time was that she was charging very high rates and doing half-ass work. I usually pick up ski bums on my way up to the mountain, they are harmelss; usually just looking to do the same thing I plan on...tearing up the slopes. I will pick up people that look respectable, or if I'm with someone in the car I will lower my standards a bit. I've hitched home after a few nights of drinking late when the MAX stopped running and I was stuck downtown and too cheap to get a cab...so yeah I try to give back a little.

I would if they were legit. I sometimes consider it when i see people walking but am always in a hurry. People don't even try around here. It's not an option.
