And how many years of service do you propose? 2 year 3 year enlistments?

The idea of draft you end up getting low quality soldiers or airman...whatever the branch, The volunteer service has proven you get better recuits that join of their free will vs a draft.

No they can't. The only place GI's can drink at 18 is when they are abroad and the local command hasn't set a new age limit.

When I was in a few years back, the base I was at had a stupid rule say 18 for beer and 19 for wine and 21 for hard alchol. That is dumb as anyone who has attended the silly drink course shows the a shot glass of wine and a single beer are all equal.

Needless to say it didn't last all that long.

        Sense my sarcasm, please.

Tough on web...we should get some sarcastic italics so folks would understand when folks are being sarcastic.

They should either make the voting/adult/draft age 21, or lower it to 18. Being an "adult" and not being able to drink is stupid.

In all honesty I would vote for not having a drinking age, driving license at 18 or 21, and adult being 18/21

Weither it is drinking alcohol, voting or driving cars, they all require the same seriousness, or let's call it "maturity". It is a nonsense that in fact, people can drive (and kill themself or others) at 15 or 16 depending on states, vote at 18 and only drink at 21. This is a reasoning I have never understood.

It is true that in some countries, it is okay to let a kid drink a bit, so that he gets sick, and then gets over it. I had a smoke at 14, I found it disgusting and never smoke ever after...

Drinking at 21 is just like chastity, or no sex before mariage.

Back in the day, the drinking age in North Carolina was 18. I spent many lunch periods at John T. Hoggard High School getting shitfaced during the last two months of my senior year. Stupid.

In hindsight, 18 is too young to drink legally. Hell, 21 is too young. I should qualify this statement by adding that GI's should be allowed to drink. I firmly believe that if you're old enough to die for your country, you're old enough to get plowed...on base. All the bars back home all had signs at the door, "E3 and below not admitted" due to our proximity to Camp Lejeune. Nothing adds more excitement to a Friday night than 10 drunken PFC's raising hell somewhere.
