There's a couple of us. I'm Linus over there too - strange how many of us E30 guys also have an 80 series. I think we did this topic a few months ago, you might search & see - Parkerbink is another longtimer there too IIRC.

I'm lazy right now, I'll see if I have a photobucket shot of my FZJ.

I think my username is FJtoys over there.

BMWs and Land Cruisers are the best at what they are. Period.

        I semi-daily drive an FJ62

          here's a shot of mine:

Oh, and it totally slipped my head Joe's got one too.

I swear there's about 10 or so here. I want to say Mariano's family has one, there's another guy here in WA, and a guy in the SE off the top of my head.

I don't buy & sell cars, my friends all know I plan to drive the doors off my L/C, and I'll keep my E30 just as long. One of the richest people I know taught me one simple lesson -
"There's no such thing as a good car deal".
If you let it sink in you'll come to agree. Uncle Sam dips in every time you do a deal, and a ton of other reasons.

Way OT - but skim as in skimboarding? I love skimboarding. I've got a 4'6'' vic

How do those things fare against rust?
Are the drivelines as bullet proof as the other 'Yotas?

My dad used to have an FJ40... I loved that thing.
An era like ParkerBinks would be cool...if towing capacity is up to pulling a small boat (~3800lbs) or a car trailer w. car...?

                      Below the radar...

yah, Linus' and Parkers had the option of factory locking diffs!!! how freaking badass is that?

on the left coast rust is not an issue...

You said ASSfault he he he

It was repainted last year. She has seen her share of offraoding & does just fine.

In areas that have snow & therefore salted roads rust is an issue. Mine is from the West, not a hint of rust. Driveline is pretty bulletproof has a beefy bus tranny. 1FZ engine has Headgasket issues. I just did mine about 2k ago at 163k.

Runs like new 4500.00 later (replaced a bunch of PM stuff while I was in there.

This is from Mud one of the gurus take on the engine: (reprinted w/o permission)

First let me state that the 1FZ engine is one of the most advanced in-line 6 cylinder gasoline engines ever offered to the public, in addition to being one of the largest displacement.

The overall design and build quality of this engine is at the very top end as far as I am concerned. Limiting factors include, but are not limited to, "acceptable" gasket materials.

We are dealing with an engine that is composed of an iron block and an aluminum cylinder head. The result is dis-similar metals that react to temperature changes at different rates.

The challenge for the designers was to come up with gaskets that can deal effectively with the expansion rates of dis-similar metals.
Before asberstos fell from grace it was a prominent feature in head gaskets for all auto manufacturers and it was very effecive.

When asbestos fell from grace there was a scramble to find a suitable replacement and early "fixes" did not perform well in the long run.

                            Toyota
has, along with everyone else, changed head gasket part numbers for virtually all engines multiple times in the last several years (1FZ included) while they have searched for the best replacement.

My personal read is that the great long aluminum head on the great long iron block moves around a bit with every heat cycle and that may be part of the cause. The latest version of the head gasket is visibly different than the originals and is significantly reinforced. I further believe that if asbestos was not "offed" as a bad guy we would not be having this discussion.

honestly the FZJ80 is arguably the ultimate do everything rig. Factory lockers, beefy axles (people wheel them with 40"s with just minor upgrades), livable size, etc.

I love my cruiser, don't plan on ever getting rid of it, and will have many more!
