Just accidentally deleted ALL my videos - how do I get them back?

I just accidentally deleted my entire videos folder, which had all my videos in it, E30 and BMW vids, movies, music videos, etc. I'm running Vista Home Premium. Does anyone know of a way I can get all of this back? I didn't move it to the recycle bin, it said that it was too big and had to be permanently deleted. I've downloaded couple of recovery programs, and they all locate it, but they all want like $50 or more for the full version to get it back. Can anyone help me out?

not familiar with vista yet but xp has a built in system restore that you can go back to a certain date and restore it to that date and time. Maybe vista has something like that

System restore does not restore personal documents, so if it is the same in Vista as it is in XP that will not help.

Are the videos on the C partition, or on a separate partition or drive?

If you only have one partition then keep in mind the more you write to that partition then the more likely you'll overwrite the files you're trying to recover. So downloading files and installing recovery programs may overwrite the files you want to save.

So if that's the case you may want to turn off the computer, pull the drive, and use another computer to recover the files from that drive.

I have Ontrack's Easy Recovery Professional, but it's a couple years old and I don't know if it works with Vista. It works fine with XP. If you want to "borrow" it then let me know.

I found a program that might just do the trick. I had to *gasp* illegally download it, but I'll live with the guilt.

Holy mother of God, it fucking worked. God bless the internet and illegally downloaded software.

I know what I'm doing tomorrow... it starts with a b and rhymes with stackup.

I don't know why people always have to learn the hard way when it comes to backing up stuff. I too learned the hard way but I bit the bullet and bought the $50 program.

Because no one really thinks about it until it actually happens to them.
