    Metal Values

Im guessing there are few people in here that have takin in junk cars or know that metal is pretty high right now. I was wondering what all of you are getting in different areas of the country per ton. Where Im at it stays about 130 a ton for cars.

120 per ton for steel. Really not that exciting.

The money can be made in aluminum and copper. Two diving board bumpers made me a whopping 16$. I think it's at .60$/lb

Yea, we get like 120-140 per ton. We make a killing on aluminum though. Especially with old, busted up radiators. We probably have about 3-4 tons of core heads sitting on the shelf in the back of the warehouse. If we sold all of that, we would probably make over 10,000, maybe more.

        Its 140 here.

Problem is everyone around here is an asshole when you bring stuff to the scrap yard, unless you bring in truck loads. I gave the scrap yard a hood, a door, and a 20lb aluminum antenna. The guy says "this is a gimme, I can't give you anything for it."

Fuck him, I let him have it because wtf else was I gonna do with it.

I can't remember what it is here, but i took a rusty Corvair body in the other day with a 305 short block and i got $100 The corvair couldn't of weighed that much cause 85% of the floors was gone and i took off alot of parts along with the motor and trans.

yards around east tennessee require you to even provide a title before they will take a scrap car. Last time I did one it was around $110 a ton but that has been awhile too...

Copper is outrageous. People are stealing cables from construction sites and stripping the coating to take to the scrap yard. And whatever doesn't get stolen or used, contractors strip and take it to scrap yards.

              And of course, platinum...

There are "Copper Theft" Billboards here in SoCal offering rewards up to 5,000 for info leading to the arrest of copper theft. I had a customer (Sheriff) that caught 3 guys in a pickup truck going into undeveloped neighborhoods where paving, curbs, and lightposts are in but no houses. These guys would go up to a light pole, open the access panel, hook the cable to a connector on their bumper tow hitch and drive down the street at night pulling massive ammounts of copper. They then got caught again with a uhaul full of it outside of city limits having a bonfire to burn off the insulation... they got prison terms last I heard.

lol and why do you do this?

The only shit I leave around is tires. I just chuck them on the side of a road in a semi-busy place so a city worker has to pick them up.

Its stupid, I have to PAY to throw that shit away? I don't have to pay to chuck metal, infact I do (should) get paid for taking it in... just like any other recycle program. I don't pay to throw out oil, I don't pay to recycle ANYTHING but I fucking have to pay to recycle tires? Fuck that, last tire I chucked I got about a 30' 2x4 and hung it from a street light. It was there for about a week.
