Parts guys get 20$ an hour? what the fuck. How brainless can that job be, match part to part number. voila.Comment
-
its the willingness to go out of their way for you that that makes them worth the loot. almost all the guys i deal with are really good. but im their #1 parts buyer also so that may be some of itComment

What does the job entail anyways? Hell I'll do it and E30 guys will be first in line...Reminiscing...Comment

Then there are some of us who look up parts, tell you if we have it, can get it etc. And if we CANT get it, we call around for you. We call and see our price from dealers or competitors, and what a walk in price would be. If its cheaper, or the customer doesnt want to deal with it, we get it coming. If its cheaper and they want to get it themselves, we put it on hold for them.
#1 goal is keeping people happy. And if they know you went out of your way to help them, even though you lost a sale, they remember that. Though you lose 1 sale, you gain a potential customer.
I feel I was worth $20 an hour where I worked even. In the last month, I made them $39k I believe it was, when our "quota" was $27k. But there are some who are pieces of shit, who arent worth their $8.
So you are right, as to some being absolute and complete morons. You'll usually find those at auto zone though. and not to glorify my past job, because it sucked ass, but it does pay ok for being brainless, but giving the extra effort. The sad part is, I dont know shit about cars. But I know how to deal with people, and give effort, so I was the man there.Originally posted by blunti would jerk larry king off while tonging jflips ass if h0lmes would blow his head offComment

When he gave me a call, he sounded pretty stoked about it. He said an average service writer makes more than an average parts man. A good service writer makes more than a parts manager, and a service manager makes "alot". lol.
And even if it does suck, he plans on leaving in the next year to go into law enforcement. So if it sucks, then I can hopefully move to parts. Assuming I get the job....Last edited by jflip2002; 09-05-2007, 10:34 AM.Originally posted by blunti would jerk larry king off while tonging jflips ass if h0lmes would blow his head offComment

you will probably be working ~11-12 hours/day. and taking shit roughly 110% of the time. there is a reason the pay for service advising is so high.My transaction feedback thread(s):

So you basically get the brunt of customers bitching? Is that it? For $9K a month I'll do that for a bit, although I'll probably bail out of that too.Reminiscing...Comment

essentially. customers have this preconceived notion of ultrapremium service because of the blue and white thing on their hood, ie: services done in a surrealistically short period of time, on the cheap. they get pissed 1) when they find out an oil service takes 5 hours, and even moreso 2) that it costs them like $200+. with the full maintenance program, clients are trained into thinking all service is free, then flip a shit when they are out of warranty/maintenance and have to cover the costs. it's funny when people with e36 318's come in and have a meltdown over the cost, they're the worst. on the bright side, there might be one or two chilled out clients a week. :p
if something goes wrong in any area (labor/cost/time/backorder parts/detail/rental car/warranty/etc etc etc, the list goes on), you get bitched out by the client, and then maybe the service manager. pay level is determined by your csi scores. crappy customer satisfaction = less pay. if you're good, you can make a killing as a service advisor. if you're mediocre.....it's not as fun.My transaction feedback thread(s):

Im not sure how I feel about 11-12 hour days lol. But I guess if I get to sit down, thats fine. At napa, I couldnt ever sit down. I guess I better get a gym membership IN TOWN so I can just do that on lunch.
Im good with customers. I had to deal with the pieces of shit coming into napa, wanting the cheapest part possible for their 95 suzuki swift. So I can deal with someone complaining about the cost. I can BS my way through it.Originally posted by blunti would jerk larry king off while tonging jflips ass if h0lmes would blow his head offComment
