Six days a week, up to twelve days consecutivly, 12-14 hrs a day, in at 6:00 am, out by 8-10:00 pm. "Covering" is the name of the game, getting someone to be satisfied with their "brand new" 60k+ luxury vehicle being in the shop for weeks on end due to problems being a first time incident that factory guys have to come out and tie up the shop doing diagnosis and sending results to the engineers at the home factory, explaining why there is a three week backorder for the little " gizmo " that goes on the side of the transmission. Explaining the extreme cost of O.E.M. dealer parts, and labor rates that people literally cry when on the phone explaining that their three month out of warranty vehicle is gonna cost them $4400.00 to fix the seat and air bag module. And thats the tip of the iceberg...
BMW Parts man salary?

i'm not trying to rag on you at all, but people definitely sense that kind of attitude, and will give you shitty csi scores. and shitty csi scores equal much less pay than you should be getting for that kind of job.
again, not trying to discourage you, but it's tougher than you think. ymmv.My transaction feedback thread(s):

Its the attitude to have. Why would I feel bad for someone who just bought a $60k vehicle, and theyre bitching that they broke a plastif thing on the door for the second time in a month?
Its a lot different, than say a poor guy coming in with his 86 Toyota "van" and always needing something, and he lives out of his van. Like this guy Lou who came into Napa, with his van, and hard on luck. You gotta build a thick skin to sob stories, because they dont do anything. you gotta charge for the part, they gotta pay. Plain and simple. So in the context I meant it, its good to not care about, or get sentimental or emotionally involved with the customer.Originally posted by blunti would jerk larry king off while tonging jflips ass if h0lmes would blow his head offComment

But if, you where a good option to fill that type of possition you would at least, show interest in said sob story, THAT'S the way to get the sale. You have to know how to work the sale, not say "pay or get the fuck out" that will not work, after a decade in the industry I can say so. And I know more than an ex-NAPA parts guy about that.
Oh, and P.S. - Thanks for propagating the behaviour that gives us in the Auto Industry a bad rap.Comment

they see that you don't give a rat's ass, all that you are going to get is negative csi, while the dealership gets an awful rap when said client tells their friends how nobody cared about them during their trip. this translates into fewer customers giving awful csi, hence, awful pay.
people who buy premium luxury vehicles expect premium luxury service. luxury service is not hardening up to a bum and charging him full price. luxury service is bending over ass backwards and going out of the way to satisfy and rectify a sob story.
again, i'm not trying to bag you/criticize you/turn you away from the job or anything; there is just a reason everyone is saying the job is as hard as it is. if you end up getting the job, best of luck, i just hope that some of this information ends up being helpful to you.My transaction feedback thread(s):

I sat in the service department for about 4 hours yesterday, talking with the service manager, and waiting to get the time to do the interview. I witnessed first hand what goes on. And I can tell you, none of the 3 women in the service section gave a shit about these customers. But the customers never knew that.
Im actually NOT an idiot, and I do get how the automotive industry goes. While napa was a shitty job, it did teach me how to treat the customers right, go that extra little step, and being someone they LIKE dealing with. All in the meantime, I didnt care about them.... except a few guys who were regulars.Originally posted by blunti would jerk larry king off while tonging jflips ass if h0lmes would blow his head offComment

Oh and PS, you can raise the stupid "owned" smiley all you want, it makes you look more like a fucktard.Originally posted by blunti would jerk larry king off while tonging jflips ass if h0lmes would blow his head offComment

You can be unhappy all day long, hate your job, pissed etc. But when the customer walks into the door, you put on your face, sell as much as you can, upsell what you can, and make them feel good... But as soon as they leave that door, you can go back to not giving a fuck, and not liking what youre doing.
good luck with the job manMy transaction feedback thread(s):

No, you are not their best customer... a bodyshop that spends 50K a month is their best customer. We could close down our entire retail parts counter without so much as a flinch in our gross profits. Personally I enjoy talking with customers when they come through the door with a huge parts list, they are usually enthusiasts or CCA members. Its nice when you can relay stories back and forth with the customers or have some hands on experience with the vehicles.Comment

If I can get 1 or 2 guys a day who are enthusiasts, and know about their car, and like ot talk about it, while Im trying to do my job, itd be great.
As far as hours, they are long though. They told me to be prepared for 7 am to 6 pm, with no lunches. So thats gonna be a little change, but for more money, Im ok with that.Originally posted by blunti would jerk larry king off while tonging jflips ass if h0lmes would blow his head offComment
