I was in my first period of school, in the 7th grade at the time (I know I'm a youngin). Another teacher ran in and told my teacher what had happened. I had no idea what they were talking about. We turned the TV on and after I saw both planes attack it finally registered. My mom pulled me out of school too. Scary day.

I don't want to hear this bullshit about "moderate" islam - it doesn't exist. I don't see mass condemnation for Bin Laden, Al Qaeda and the other various islamofascist groups. I don't see an outrage for a group that allegedly "hijacked" islam. Why don't you see it? Because it isn't there. Bin Laden and such didn't hijack anything, Islam is what they are.

According to this, we don't see an outrage because the extremists try to kill those that speak out. Of course I'm no expert on the situation so I'm not arguing, just thought this article was interesting. Comment

Just came across this post after searching "plane crash" to see if anyone started a thread on the recent plane crash in Washington State that killed 10 people, one of which was a friend of mine.

What you all have described here is what is referred to in the cognitive literature as a "flashbulb" memory...it is defined as a memory of an event that is long lasting, detailed, and accurate. It is actually a fairly controversial phenomenon. Countless studies have been done wherein a researcher asks a participant to recall where he was, what he was doing, how and when he learned of the news when, for example, JFK was assassinated, the challenger exploded, 9/11, and so on. The current consensus is that flashbulbs can be very erroneous, and that confidence rather than accuracy is what characterizes them. So we may have these vivid images of waking up that morning and turning on the TV, going to school, listening to the radio, working on someone's car, etc., but it turns out by and large our minds are playing tricks on us. That is not to say that all of your accounts are wrong or entirely inaccurate, because that is likely not the case. Nonetheless, what would be interesting would be to rewrite your account 1 year, 2 years, 5 years, and 10 years from now without looking at your previous accounts to see what details were omitted, what details were added, and what details were changed completely. Food for thought.sigpic

Yeah, that is interesting. A few years ago we had a major incident where a disgruntled ex-employee came back to reak havoc after being fired. Being that I was one of the closest people to the situation, I was one of the witnesses in the detailed police report. I am sure that if I were to re-tell the story it would be much different.Comment

it's likely, but for different reasons...in your case you actually witnessed the event, which is a stark contrast from passively learning of the event via a friend, the news, the radio, etc. If there was a weapon involved or a direct threat, you were probably aroused and your attention was likely narrowed, in which case you'd probably remember central details with good precision (e.g., the weapon, the subject's facial features, clothing, build, etc), while neglecting peripheral details (e.g., the weather, the indoor temperature, how many people were immediately present). The subject of eyewitness accuracy is a whole different topic in of itself. Whether your account is accurate today relative to your first account will depend on your current state of arousal, how long it has been since the event occured, and how many times you have rehearsed the event in your head over that duration. More food for thought :)Yeah, that is interesting. A few years ago we had a major incident where a disgruntled ex-employee came back to reak havoc after being fired. i could not agree more. I was at home eating a bowl of cereal. I was born in new york, I will never forget. Are you fucking kidding me? "We deserved it"? We deserved it, because as a society, we seek to be progressive and insure an amazing quality of life and standard of living even for our "poor". Where someone making 23k/yr with 2 TVs, an apartment and a car is considered in poverty. We deserved it because we have a society of laws and protections that allow us to voice our opinions, no matter how backwards and retarded they may be. We deserved it because we're a first world nation that creates and exports culture and values. They hate us for our prosperity.

Fuck that. It's not our fault that they follow some bullshit raghead religion that states you live in the mud and caves like the rest of the world did a thousand years ago. That you batter your women, that you dismember a man for a small transgression. It's not our fault they follow this false dogma that states their only way to salvation is to commit suicide and murder the innocents in the ultimate act of cowardice. Islam is a plague apon the western world. Left unchecked it will be a cancer that kills us.

This is a list of all the terrorists which are wanted in Chile and the reason is under the name, of course, our current govt is left wing and has aided these people in breaking out of jail and leaving the country, even in some cases provided fake passports or even pardons.
We have had terrorism for decades here, the ammenities include biological weapons in the subway, bombs in cars, banks, houses etc. Planes being hijacked, drive by's at schools, kidnappings, etc.
A lot of people in govt. now were terrorists (or harbored and financed them in the past). This is why we needed more than 20 ywears of military govt. to exterminate most of them and to get the country back in shape so it could be ruined once again by "democracy".

I hope the US does not have to cope with more terrorism inside it's borders, the big brother attitude can sometimes be a bit annoying to us (I mean developing countries), but I read here that "you deserved it", nobody deserves to bury his father's or son's shoe, or part of an ear, or even nothing. The problem is that when they are caught, the protectors will show up, (Amnesty international, human rights watch, etc.), how can a person that bombs 100 people be rated as human ???

This topic is very sensitive and will be for a long time, but don't forget, if you do, you might elect BinLaden president, just as we did here.

I refuse to watch that movie, or whatever the other one was called.

It sickens me to think that Hollywood was already capitalizing off of this within 5 years of it happening. I wonder how much of the box office gross from those films was seen by the families?

Not trying to spark a debate here, just throwing my hat in the ring. Whatever the circumstances of the events, the motives, the conspiracies, the truth, it doesn't matter. It's still incredibly unethical.Comment

+1 I couldn't agree more... and I'm not attempting to start debate, either... but it would have been alot cooler if they had given a portion of the sales to the families... they prob would have gotten more people to see/buy they movies if they had done that, too.I refuse to watch that movie, or whatever the other one was called.

I woke up and my parents were watching the news.
Hawaii closed its schools that day (I was in 10th grade), and they shut down a lot of businesses too. They made the decision early here, since both towers had already gone down by the time people were waking up. Comment

I agree with you, however, I watched it because my parents had borrowed it from someone.I refuse to watch that movie, or whatever the other one was called.

I 100% agree with what you are saying, the families should have seen the profit coming from it.

However, watching that movie just made it more of an impact. To see all the people who made those last phone calls... sad.
