    SACD oddness

I have a Sony DVD Changer that also plays SACDs I figured I'd get one to see what the difference was. I pop it in the SACD & multichannel lights light up but no sound (running through optical digital)

I check the settings in the DVD player to see if there is something needing tweaking, no. I tried 2 channel (another choice) no sound and normal CD gets sound. Weird.

Finally in desperation I connect the player through analog RCA cables, run SACD Multichannel & get sound through all seven channels. wtf?

How can a supposedly superior technology not output to the superior connection. For grins I tried the coax digital connection and no sound.

heh, thats weird. no idea what to say about that.

on different note, i bought a region free dvd player... it came in PAL mode, let me tell you the shit i had to go thought to get it right. (hint, digital camera rapid shuttering every keystroke). i have issues with sound output as well as i have to make sure the options are set properly depending on the region... i dunno. you get what you pay for?????

Well understand that the sound is analog when you hear it. CD players have a "digital to analog" converter and the quality of the sound is dependant on the quality of the D/A converter.

When you are connecting the digital coaxial output to your home reciever, you are only opting to use the D/A converter inside of reciever in lieu of using the built in one on the CD player. The one thing that makes SACD nice is that you do not have to have digital equipment in order to get that rich 7.1 stereo. The quality isn't any lesser than digital. Its just that you are using the on-board converter.

I have it connected to a Harman Kardon AVR 630. It plays DVDs,CDs, etc fine using the optical connection. It plays the CD layer on the SACD, (it is a hybrid disk) using the optical connection.

        I don't get it.

Dude...I would think you would know.

DVDA and SACD play ONLY in analog.

          ANALOG ONLY MEANS NO COPYING!!!!

          Fucking faggy ass Sony bastards.

Oh, and no 7.1 obviously, since SACD decks have 5.1 outs only.

Good luck getting decent bass management, too. It is almost like you need a dedicated system for SACD...once again, fucking faggy ass Sony wants you to buy more shit.

Thanks Luke. As I said this is my first SACD. I only got it to see what it sounded like. (Dark Side of the Moon) sounded fine but I really see no difference between this new one and the one I have had for 20 years.

It is playing using HK's Logic 7 in full 7 channel wonderfulness including the subwoofer.
