What's the deal with that? I take it they were able to get it taken care of?

Yea, when they discovered it was cancer, they cut the chunk of leg that had the cancer out until they had good margins. it was on my thigh where that had take the skin grafts from. 6 months later, they did a PET scan and it was clear. I will have 2 more over the next 2 years before they can say i am in remission.

Holy shit dude never seen this thread. Bit far on now but how quickly was the golden staph infection dealt with?

I ask cos I broke my leg jut above the ankle a few years ago. Had a plate put in to realign the miss alignment. Anyways after a year it was still not completely healed. So I went back into surgery to remove the plate only to be told that I have golden staph infection in the bone.

I thought ok so what you just give me some pills and were good. But when they told me I could die from it, it scared the shit out of me. So basically I went on a 24/7 aniboitic drip for 4 weeks and then 6 months of pills and no drinking the whole time.

So fortunatly everything worked out all right. But there will always be a chance for the rest of my life that it might come back. Which is a scary thought, and I am always interested when someone else gets it how quickly it was picked up and how quickly it was treated.

it sounds like you might be colonized with it, like i am. basically any time you have surgery, you need to let the doc know what has happened.

they will give you antibiotics in IV form during the surgery and pills after. what it does is keep it in check so it can't flare up causing more problems.

if they do the preemptive stuff, you are pretty much golden.

BTW it is OK to drink when you are on anti biotics. it does not make them less potient, but they do dehydrate you and the booze aggravate the dehydration which slows down your recovery and your ability to fight off the infection.
