No state income tax in WA either.
After coming over to Ellensburg for school, I can see what a huge difference there is in taxes between here and Bellevue. But, this is also reflected in the upkeep of the city.

And we've got outrageous property tax in WA. Being a homeowner, I fucking hate it.

Here is the Baton Rouge, LA area, we have 9.5% sales tax, along with the damn income tax.

Don't forget Use Tax, fellas. Nearly everything you buy is taxable. Even if the business does not collect a tax, you are still liable for it.

It is estimated that over 12 billion dollars a year goes uncollected because people evade this tax by not claiming their qualifying purchases on their tax returns.

That's why the G Men are so keen to force businesses to collect taxes on all online purchases regardless of where they are shipped.....

Good ol' MD has 5% sales tax and 4.75% income taxes (over $3K).

What about Delaware? Don't they have no sales tax? I remember my friend picked up his Bose sound system at the outlet stores near the beaches there, saved $150 in taxes!

Hmm its funny that this question came up...

I'm in the middle of putting a site up and am confused as to whether or not I have to charge the state sales tax and the separate sales tax in the New York City area (the 5 borough's)..

Here in Mi our income taxes just went up to somewhere close to 5% an we have a sales tax on nearly everything of 6%. Only thing exempt that I can think of is food, an if its ready to eat such as MD's, BK, or an place serving food you pay the 6%. I know in Mt there is no sales tax but they have a 10% income tax.

Buying online doesnt make you immune. It actually has nothing to do with the medium you used to buy it.

What happens is if a company isnt operating in your state then you dont have to pay the local sales tax. However, companies like best buy, dell, apple, have kiosks, stores, or services provided in your state so they, technically are a local company. Its a way to keep people from, say, buying stuff from a local company but having it shipped in from a remote warehouse in order to save taxes.

Yes, but we have obscenly high income taxes. But what is nice is if you travel to WA state, and show your driver's license you don't have to pay sales tax at some places. Not that they're required to waive sales tax to non-residents, but many do.

I tried this at costco in northern california
(oregon booze is state controlled and costs a fortune -- so I was in cali and bought 500$ of booze at costco on the cheap)
Costco said so sorry, please pay cali sales tax. I still saved 150$ over oregon alcohol.
