    Canine Drug Searches

The high school that I attend performs random drug searches of everything on the school property with the help of drug sniffing dogs. Earlier today I was called out because my E30 was "suspicious." I'm a senior and have made nothing but the best choices -- I've never smoked pot/had anyone in my car that did it or as even been buzzed on alcohol. Today they performed one of these searches in the student parking lot and had me taken out of class to unlock my doors for them to search. Knowing full well I was clean I let them search. After 10 minutes of me standing in the rain they found nothing and told me to go to class.

The search upset me, but they were doing their job. What had me posting here is later today, at around 6pm, when the rain had cleared and the sun was setting I noticed scratch marks all over my passenger door. Right through the clear coat, paint, and in some places even through the primer. There are clearly several scratches from their drug dogs. There are even two muddy paw marks clearly on my window and door. Their dogs clearly damaged my paint and it needs to be repainted.

I've talked to my Allstate Claims adjuster and he said I can make a case for my the paint to be fixed and I'm due to talk to my local Police Chief and Lieutenant tomorrow. Anybody have any furthur advice I could use here?

No, I'm not some bastard trying to get money from a honest school system. Damaged was inflicted on my car without them telling me and I'd like some restitution.

Try to keep any flamings to a minimum and thank you.

Take money from the school, they shouldn't have f'd your stuff.

I use Mother's Carnuba Gold, Meguire's "6" Mirror Glaze, I've claybared with a mother's kit and have used the Ice 2 Step Liquid clay bar. Looking at the damage, its sadly not something that can be fixed by a good claybar.

Claw scratches on a schwartz E30 is terrible!

Can they even make you open your car up for drug searches being on their property without a search warrant ?? I dont think so, but I might be wrong, maybe when you signed up for a permit the fine print says you give them permission to do so without a permit..... Worth looking into anyways. But to me looks like your civil rights were trampled on.

Wow thats fucked up, good luck getting anything out of the Police agency or the school.

My ex had a dog that jumped up and scratched my car, I wasn't really mad about it, and she knew how I was with my car, so she made it up with sex. I was glad it buffed out.

I really do hope you are successful in getting a few bucks from the K9 police. I think much of what they do is way too aggressive...but they all know that if weed were to be legalized, they would most likely be out of a job.

Other than that I would say park elsewhere or buy a beater to drive. High school is no place to bring ANYTHING nice.

Good to hear you have remained drug free. I would be miles ahead of where I am today had I made better choices in my life.

Remaining drug free is likely the best you could ever do.

Oh yeah, lets not forget that alcohol is a drug, too.

Exactly. This sort of thing is absolutely contrary to the spirit behind the foundation of this country. Sadly, too many Americans are willing to give up their Constitutionally protected fundamental civil liberties for a false sense of security. War on Crime, War on Drugs, War on Terror, Brady Campaign, etc. are just politically correct ways of taking away your rights.

Back when I was in high school, they said the school/police can search lockers/cars without permission/warrants/reason.Stupid, I know. But it was high school, you dont have much rights. But I dont think they mention about damage to your belongings.

So to the OP, keep trying and I hope things work out.

At my highschool, if you park on school property, you are willfully surrendering your right to deny a search. If you parked across the street, you were not to be searched. A druggie I knew got screwed because of this. Hopefully they will give you something for your trouble, but I wouldn't count on it.

Life's a bitch, then you die.
