Had the day off today, so decided I'd do extended cruise on the fixie. Put 22 miles on just riding around exploring my town, had a blast. First pics since switching the bike up from bone stock. I have more changes in mind, but it's pretty low on the priorities list.

Bike looks great but that stem seems incredibly short.91 318is M50 swapped

Thanks guys, yeah that was the shortest stem I could find actually. The frame on this thing is HUGE. I'm 6'1" and you can see how little seatpost is showing. I read they run big before I ordered it, but the standover height for the 60cm seemed right so that's what I went for.
Stock stem was 120mm which looked ridiculous, but beside that it had me way stretched out. The shorty made a huge difference; I didn't even want to get off today, I actually cut the ride short only because I had to run some used oil to the recycling center before they closed.
Here's how it looked out of the box, so stoked that the stem not only made it more comfortable, but completely transformed the front end:

I don't get the fixie fad. Sure they are as simple as they get, but beyond that, they are too limiting. They suck going up hill, they suck more going downhill, and again, rpm limited on the flats. Sorry, I admit I can't climb to save my life, but I'd love to see someone on a fixie keep up with me on a decent. A single speed I can see, at least you have a freewheel, but fixed gear, sorry. The only place for a fixed gear is in a velodrome.

I dunno, it's just fun to have to think about how I'm pedaling as opposed to just spinning away. I bought this bike on a complete whim. I had been eyeing a road bike on bikesdirect, and finally went on to order it after a couple alcoholic beverages one night. Started poking around and saw the Kilo "stripper". I thought the idea of the raw frame on a minimalist bike was the coolest thing ever.
I had always been curious about the buzz around fixed gears, had never ridden one, didn't know anyone that had one, so why not buy my own? I bought two bikes that night. I almost got bucked off it on my first ride when I stood up to adjust my position on the seat forgetting that I can't coast.
I have five bikes at the moment, and each has a purpose. Initially, I mainly rode this one when my wife and I would go riding together, since she's soooo slooooow and the fixed gear just kept it a little more interesting, but over time it's become one of my favorites to ride.'84 318i - Lapisblau/Schwarz (in cryosleep)
