Just took a look at the 1.5 today and out the door I could get it for $1080. I took a look at the site, but to be honest I am totally new to this and no nothing. What would be a good bike to start off with, but grow into. oh and I am about 5'8''

Well, theres a billion ways you could go about it...
As a newb, your goal should be to get the best bike for the lowest dollar amount, with the lowest dollar amount point coming before the best bike part.

As a newb, this would be tits. I'd love to have this:
Serious Steel Bikes for People Who Don't Take Themselves Too Seriously

But for a beginner, I'd say a standard freewheel single speed for commuting with front and rear brakes and provisions for racks and shit would be top notch in your needs basket.
        Like this:

        or

        or

I particularly like this last one. Comes with bullhorns, brakes, has good cable stops under the top tube instead of the clamp style cable housing holders, freewheel AND track, rack provisions front and rear. Its ready to rock n roll for a fraction of your budget. Buy something cheap like these ^, then figure out what you like and what you dont like. Sell it off or upgrade it when you've grown out of it.

                my frame:

eros frame is made in thailand, my frame is made in italy. it had a campy veloce group at one point but it was stripped and replaced with shimano sora (sora flight deck has actually been really reliable and smooth feeling) with shimano 600 brakes

will be glad to get it back to full campy, bout to have a baller ass roadbike again around 6 oclock today

3T stem - FSA flat top bars-Fizzik Seat_Hutchinsons tri tires-Ultegra 6700-Xero rims(cheap Asian knock offs but good enough for now)-FSA compression cap- Got 1st ez ride in today and the Carbon frame is so smoooth yet very responsive. Like the 28/11 gearing too since I've got big hils and good lungs from running..

dlm catch me if you can
