Nah aussie has it way worse than us. We get all of japans old rubbish which keeps 2nd hand cars pretty cheap. From what I've been told aus has much stricter import laws to protect its local new car industry.

A mint vert or F/L M325i can still command a 5 figure price but the cooking model e30's are anywhere from $1000 to $5000+ depending on condition, milage, motor, manual etc. I think they were actually cheapest about 2 years ago, theres still some dogs around but the good ones certainly aren't getting any cheaper, not like e36's are

        nice 320i vert, NZ$8500

        M325i. NZ$7500

        87 325i with mtec1, NZ$3000

        86 320i, NZ$1000

and then theres cars like this:
        90 318iS, NZ$15000

You guys should check out Greece.

Here a 85 - 86 318i costs about 3K AT LEAST no matter the condition, it is just the lower price of an E30.

          You can also find a 316 (not I, it had the carb'd 1593cc M10, i own one)with a lot of rust not under 2K.

A friend of mine is looking for a 325i and he bumped into a 325 convertible that was "born" as a 318i with 300K+ on the odo and the guy asked for 6.8K!!

Also here in Greece due to the tax system and the low incomes most swapped cars are illegal because the owners do (edit-->>)NOT complete the necessary papers to state that the engine is swapped, if you get pulled over and a cop opens the hood...hmmm from that moment the car belongs to the state!!

So prices here are quite high for a 17+ year old car (but very low for a piece of art)
          P.S.All prices are in Euro

I've very quickly looked into this just now, it seems to be about 10% import tax, ad that to value of car then 10% of that total in GST.

So between 10-20% of The customs value of the vehicle.

You're right though, I am definitely going to look into this in the future.

Anyone know what his old car sold for? IIRC, I saw like $17,500 as the asking.

Jordan - did they tell you what it sold for? Was it even still yours when it went to M-cars?

It's not how you handle the good times, but the faith you keep in the bad that defines you.

New Zealand isn't nearly as expensive as Aussie. Australia is expensive for E30s because they have high import taxs to help there local car manufacturers. In New Zealand we don't make any vehicles at all so we dont have that. You can get a straight E30 which is manual for say $4000NZD off trademe.co.nz, or even less. I paid $3900 for mine and it was auto, wasnt the best deal but wasnt too bad.

Ha ha, I'd need to think about it alot more than 5 min's.
Plus, as said above, cars need to be RHD, something that didn't even cross my mind till just now lol.
